{"id":263983,"date":"2024-12-11T15:10:19","date_gmt":"2024-12-11T15:10:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/12\/11\/after-flawless-presidential-poll-ghana-delivers-7-2-gdp-growth-fastest-since-2019-bloomberg\/"},"modified":"2024-12-11T15:10:19","modified_gmt":"2024-12-11T15:10:19","slug":"after-flawless-presidential-poll-ghana-delivers-7-2-gdp-growth-fastest-since-2019-bloomberg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/12\/11\/after-flawless-presidential-poll-ghana-delivers-7-2-gdp-growth-fastest-since-2019-bloomberg\/","title":{"rendered":"After flawless presidential poll, Ghana delivers 7.2% GDP growth, fastest since 2019 &#8211; Bloomberg"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Days after Ghana delivered a presidential election that is now the envy of many nations, it has emerged that the country\u2019s economic growth accelerated in the third quarter to the fastest pace in almost five years after solid gains in the industrial sector.\n<\/p>\n<p>Gross domestic product grew 7.2% in the three months through September from a year earlier, compared with a revised 7% increase in the prior quarter, Government Statistician Samuel Kobina Annimtold reporters in the capital, Accra, on Wednesday.\n<\/p>\n<p>It was the fastest pace of year-on-year growth since 7.9% was recorded in the fourth quarter of 2019, easily beating the median of three economists\u2019 estimates in a Bloomberg survey for a 5.4% expansion.\n<\/p>\n<p>Read also:\u00a0Data expose gaps in Nigeria\u2019s $1trn GDP target\n<\/p>\n<p>The cedi rose 0.3% to almost a seven-month high of 14.7034 per dollar at 10:33 a.m. in the capital, Accra.<\/p>\n<p>The data follows the election victory earlier this week of former President John Mahama, after voters rejected the incumbent administration amid anger over a cost-of-living crisis in the West African nation. <\/p>\n<p>Ghana is exiting a prolonged debt restructuring and is in the second year of an International Monetary Fund program that\u2019s included painful austerity measures.\n<\/p>\n<p>The industrial sector grew by an annual 10.4% in the period after expanding 9.4% in the second quarter.
