{"id":261865,"date":"2024-12-06T22:53:52","date_gmt":"2024-12-06T22:53:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/12\/06\/cjid-and-dubawa-intensify-efforts-to-protect-integrity-of-ghanas-2024-elections\/"},"modified":"2024-12-06T22:53:52","modified_gmt":"2024-12-06T22:53:52","slug":"cjid-and-dubawa-intensify-efforts-to-protect-integrity-of-ghanas-2024-elections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/12\/06\/cjid-and-dubawa-intensify-efforts-to-protect-integrity-of-ghanas-2024-elections\/","title":{"rendered":"CJID and DUBAWA intensify efforts to protect integrity of Ghana&#8217;s 2024 Elections"},"content":{"rendered":"<br><div id=\"article-text\">\n                       \n                        \n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As Ghana approaches its 2024 general elections, the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) and its fact-checking subsidiary, DUBAWA, are scaling up their initiatives to ensure a transparent, credible, and inclusive electoral process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CJID has deployed 19 observers, fact-checkers, and OSINT analysts to monitor and verify information circulating ahead of the December polls. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These personnel are working through the organisation\u2019s Media in National Elections (MiNE) initiative and verification campaigns, focusing on countering misinformation and disinformation that could undermine public trust in the electoral outcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In two newly released reports, CJID provides\u00a0insights into citizens\u2019 perceptions of the electoral environment\u00a0as well as\u00a0patterns and threats posed by misinformation and disinformation.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, CJID\u2019s Digital Technology, AI, and Information Disorder Analysis Centre (DAIDAC) has identified online trends threatening electoral integrity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the latest article published by DUBAWA Ghana (\u201cAgyapadie Circus: A Make-Believe Toxic Politico-Ethnic Document for Election\u201d), DUBAWA found evidence of political propaganda spreading on social media ahead of the polls. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DUBAWA Ghana has also successfully\u00a0debunked\u00a0AI-generated deepfake content circulating on social media platforms, further exposing the novel tactics used to manipulate public opinion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To address these challenges, CJID is collaborating closely with the Ghana Fact-checking Coalition, the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP), Deutsche Gesellschaft f\u00fcr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), and tech partners, including META and TikTok. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Three situation rooms have been established in Accra, Tamale, and Kumasi, enabling real-time monitoring, rapid verification, and prompt responses to misleading claims that could sway voters or incite tension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur goal is to strengthen trust, encourage informed participation, and ensure a peaceful electoral environment,\u201d said Akintunde Babatunde, Director of Programs at CJID. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBy working together, citizens and institutions can uphold democratic values and safeguard Ghana\u2019s longstanding reputation as one of West Africa\u2019s most stable democracies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With these coordinated efforts, CJID and its partners are poised to play a pivotal role in promoting electoral integrity, boosting voter confidence, and preserving the credibility of Ghana\u2019s democratic process ahead of the pivotal 2024 elections.<br\/><\/p>\n\n                <p><strong>DISCLAIMER: <\/strong>The Views, Comments, Opinions, Contributions and Statements made by Readers and Contributors on this platform do not necessarily represent the views or policy of Multimedia Group Limited.<\/p>      \n               \n <!-- Post Tags -->\n                \n\n                        \n\n    \n                                 \n                                             \n                    <\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As Ghana approaches its 2024 general elections, the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) and its fact-checking subsidiary, DUBAWA, are scaling up their initiatives to ensure a transparent, credible, and inclusive electoral process.
