{"id":260791,"date":"2024-12-05T09:39:41","date_gmt":"2024-12-05T09:39:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/12\/05\/ghana-recorded-trade-surplus-of-gh%e2%82%b53-9bn-in-months-of-2024-gss\/"},"modified":"2024-12-05T09:39:41","modified_gmt":"2024-12-05T09:39:41","slug":"ghana-recorded-trade-surplus-of-gh%e2%82%b53-9bn-in-months-of-2024-gss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/12\/05\/ghana-recorded-trade-surplus-of-gh%e2%82%b53-9bn-in-months-of-2024-gss\/","title":{"rendered":"Ghana recorded trade surplus of GH\u20b53.9bn in months of 2024 &#8211; GSS"},"content":{"rendered":"<br><div id=\"article-text\">\n                       \n                        \n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ghana recorded a trade surplus of GH\u20b53.9 billion in the months of 2024, the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the GSS, exports in the third quarter of 2024 amounted to GH\u20b574.8 billion, while imports totalled GH\u20b570.9 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This marked a significant improvement, with a turnaround of a trade deficit of GH\u20b52.3 billion in quarter 3 2023 to a surplus of GH\u20b53.9 billion in Q3 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In US dollar terms, the total trade amounted to US$9.6 billion, consisting of US$4.9 billion in exports and US$4.7 billion in imports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Gold Bullion Is Top Exporter<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gold bullion, valued at GH\u20b546.5 billion, was the top export product in the third quarter of 2024, with a value more than four times that of the second-highest export, crude petroleum, which was valued at GH\u20b511.6 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Together, the top five export products &#8211; gold, crude petroleum, cocoa paste, manganese ores and tuna, accounted for 83.2% of total exports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Screenshot-2024-12-05-010846.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10032651943\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The export share of gold increased from 42.5% in the third quarter of 2023 to 62.1% in the third quarter of 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In contrast, the share of mineral fuels and oils has reduced by approximately half over the same period. The share of cocoa beans and products has also decreased from 4.8% to 4.6% over this period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the third quarter of 2024, the top two import products, both within the category of mineral fuels and oils, totalled GH\u20b512.9 billion, with gas oil leading at GH\u20b5 7.0 billion.
