{"id":259509,"date":"2024-12-02T16:03:53","date_gmt":"2024-12-02T16:03:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/12\/02\/35-of-ghanaians-living-with-hiv-unaware-of-their-status\/"},"modified":"2024-12-02T16:03:53","modified_gmt":"2024-12-02T16:03:53","slug":"35-of-ghanaians-living-with-hiv-unaware-of-their-status","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/12\/02\/35-of-ghanaians-living-with-hiv-unaware-of-their-status\/","title":{"rendered":"35% of Ghanaians living with HIV unaware of their status"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Ghana AIDS Commission has revealed that 35% of Ghanaians living with HIV are unaware of their status, and 55% of this significant proportion are not enrolled in antiretroviral treatment.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Commission, the failure of affected persons to adhere to antiretroviral treatment has hindered its efforts to achieve treatment targets.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at this year\u2019s World AIDS Day National Durbar Celebration, on December 2, the Director-General of the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC), Dr Kyeremeh Atuahene, explained that despite the shortcomings, the Commission has made considerable gains.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite the progress we have made, the epidemic care continues to show a very low rate of decline\u2026It is estimated that 35% of Ghanaians living with HIV, have not tested and don\u2019t know their HIV status.
