Gospel artiste Afia Ayiwah has responded to critics who target female gospel artistes that have gone through divorce. <\/p>\n

According to her, society applies double standards when it comes to the personal lives of gospel artistes, compared to secular artistes. <\/p>\n

She pointed out that while a secular artiste’s troubled marriage may not attract much attention, the end of a gospel artiste’s marriage often becomes a major issue. <\/p>\n

“When a secular artiste’s marriage is on the rocks, people don\u2019t make much of it and even tend to overlook it. But when a gospel artiste\u2019s marriage ends, it becomes such a big deal. That\u2019s how I see it,” she said. <\/p>\n

Afia emphasised that no one should feel obligated to stay in an abusive relationship, noting that marriage is meant to be enjoyed, not endured. <\/p>\n

“Marriage is supposed to be enjoyed, not endured. Yes, it gets tough sometimes, and you\u2019re expected to overcome challenges. However, when it becomes abusive and your mental health is at stake, you need to walk out of the fire,” she said. <\/p>\n

She added, “Nobody deserves to die because of marriage. As a Christian, I\u2019ve read the Bible, and I don\u2019t know which part of it states that marriage is a requirement for heaven and that without it, you can\u2019t make it to the City of God.” <\/p>\n

Afia concluded by urging people to stop spreading false information and making judgments without knowing the full story, as these actions can harm an artiste\u2019s reputation. <\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes, people spread false information without knowing the facts. They don\u2019t even understand what led to the collapse of the union, yet they put out unverified stories just to taint the artiste\u2019s reputation,\u201d she stated. <\/p>\n

Her comments come after gospel artiste Ohemaa Mercy faced backlash following her revelation that she divorced her husband after receiving divine guidance through prayer. <\/p>\n
