One 27-year-old woman, who found out her fianc\u00e9 was cheating on her with a co-worker, thought she could \u201crely on her family for support\u201d after the \u201chumiliating and devastating\u201d ordeal but her mother was \u201coddly neutral\u201d about it.<\/p>\n<p>After choosing to break up with her fianc\u00e9, her mum told her \u201ceveryone makes mistakes\u201d and asked if she was perhaps \u201coverreacting\u201d but she remained determined to move on from her ex.<\/p>\n<p>Now, she\u2019s in a \u201chealthy, loving relationship\u201d with her boyfriend who she described as \u201cnot wealthy\u201d like her ex but \u201cloyal, kind, and hardworking\u201d. Unfortunately, her mother disapproves.<\/p>\n<p>On Reddit, the woman explained: \u201cShe once told me, \u201cHe\u2019s nice, but he\u2019s not exactly husband material, is he?\u201d and made comments like, \u201cYour ex could\u2019ve provided you with such a comfortable life.\u201d I brushed it off because I know my mom can be superficial, and I didn\u2019t want to let it ruin our relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At US tradition Thanksgiving, the woman was \u201cexcited\u201d to introduce her boyfriend to her family but upon arrival, was stunned to see her ex \u201csitting at the table, laughing with [her] siblings like nothing had happened\u201d. This left her boyfriend \u201cconfused\u201d and the woman anxious.<\/p>\n<p>She quickly asked her mother why her ex was there, who boldly admitted she\u2019d invited him because he\u2019s \u201cpractically family\u201d. The woman reminded her of the pain her ex caused her and that she\u2019d brought her boyfriend.<\/p>\n<p>But her mother told her her boyfriend \u201cisn\u2019t exactly Thanksgiving material\u201d while her ex \u201cbelonged there\u201d, loud enough for the woman\u2019s boyfriend to overhear. She continued: \u201cI was furious. I told her that if my ex stayed, we were leaving. She rolled her eyes and said, \u201cDon\u2019t be dramatic. It\u2019s not like you\u2019re still dating him. Be an adult and get over it.\u201d\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After that, the couple left, leaving the woman\u2019s mother furious and accusing her of \u201cembarrassing\u201d her in front of an \u201cimportant\u201d guest. One person said: \u201cYour mom 100% knew what she was doing to you with that. Even just thinking about it it&#8217;s disgusting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another, quoting the woman\u2019s mum, said: \u201cShe&#8217;s not exactly mother material is she? Your mom should have your back and want you to be cherished by your partner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To which, the woman replied: \u201cHonestly, it\u2019s hard not to feel that way right now. A mother should want her child to be happy and respected, but it feels like she\u2019s more concerned with appearances and wealth than my emotional well-being.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s disappointing, to say the least.
