{"id":258489,"date":"2024-11-30T19:25:21","date_gmt":"2024-11-30T19:25:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/30\/boankra-inland-port-is-50-complete\/"},"modified":"2024-11-30T19:25:21","modified_gmt":"2024-11-30T19:25:21","slug":"boankra-inland-port-is-50-complete","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/30\/boankra-inland-port-is-50-complete\/","title":{"rendered":"Boankra Inland Port is 50% complete"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ghanaweb.com\/imagelib\/pics\/487\/48711176.295.jpg\" alt=\"Chief Executive of GSA, Kwesi Baffour Okyere Sarpong\" title=\"Chief Executive of GSA, Kwesi Baffour Okyere Sarpong\" width=\"295\" height=\"197\" \/> <span class=\"image_caption\"><span>Chief Executive of GSA, Kwesi Baffour Okyere Sarpong<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"-webkit-user-select: none; -webkit-touch-callout: none; -moz-user-select: none; -ms-user-select: none; user-select: none;\">\n<p id=\"article-123\">The Ghana Shippers\u2019 Authority (GSA) has launched its 50th-anniversary celebrations marking five decades of dedication to the growth and transformation of Ghana\u2019s shipping and logistics industry.<\/p>\n<p>This took place on Friday, November 29, 2024, at the Marriott Hotel in Accra.<\/p>\n<p>Themed \u201cCelebrating 50 Years of Resilience; Honouring Our Legacy and Inspiring Innovative Excellence,\u201d the event reflected on the Authority\u2019s achievements while laying out ambitious plans for the future.<\/p>\n<p>In his keynote address, the Minister for Transport, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, praised the GSA\u2019s pivotal role in Ghana\u2019s economic development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Ghana Shippers\u2019 Authority has been a cornerstone in facilitating international trade, reducing costs, and protecting shippers\u2019 interests,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister also highlighted the Authority\u2019s achievements, such as the annual cocoa freight negotiations and the construction of the Boankra Inland Port.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the significance of the recently enacted Ghana Shippers\u2019 Authority Act, 2024 (Act 1122), Mr Asiamah explained that \u201cthe new Act provides the Authority with the requisite legal framework to effectively regulate the commercial shipping sector and address challenges such as illegitimate charges by service providers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Chief Executive of GSA, Kwesi Baffour Okyere Sarpong, underscored the Authority\u2019s contributions to Ghana\u2019s economy, describing the 50-year journey as a reflection of resilience and innovation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFifty years is not just a number; it is a tribute to the legacy and an ode to the innovative spirit that propels us forward,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Okyere Sarpong emphasised the Authority\u2019s achievements in modernizing its operations, including the establishment of an e-platform to address non-tariff barriers and the categorization of shippers into Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze tiers for tailored services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, we stand as a transformed institution\u2014not just stronger but smarter,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The CEO highlighted the Boankra Inland Port as a flagship project that would revolutionize Ghana\u2019s logistics landscape.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith construction now 50% complete, this multimodal transport innovation will seamlessly connect Ghana\u2019s land, sea, and air transport systems, creating immense benefits for our landlocked neighbors and boosting trade,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Chairperson of the GSA Board, Stella Wilson lauded the Authority\u2019s commitment to good governance, transparency, and innovation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur robust governance frameworks have ensured integrity in decision-making, enhancing our reputation nationally and internationally,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She further noted the Authority\u2019s ability to adapt to industry changes while upholding its mandate.<\/p>\n<p>Reflecting on the challenges faced over the years, Madam Wilson commended the leadership\u2019s ability to navigate hurdles and implement fit-for-purpose solutions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur vision and dedication have guided us through difficulties, allowing us to achieve remarkable success,\u201d she remarked.<\/p>\n<p>Both speakers and guests reiterated the need for continuous innovation in the shipping industry.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Asiamah called for the adoption of green shipping practices and strengthened international partnerships.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe next 50 years present an opportunity to build on this enviable legacy, transforming the Authority into a world-class organization,\u201d he urged.<\/p>\n<p>The GSA\u2019s leadership echoed this sentiment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet this anniversary be a call to action.
