The Managing Director of the Greater Accra Private Transport Executive, Charles Abban, has noted that the government’s initiative to incorporate electric buses into Ghana’s public transport system is a laudable step.<\/p>\n He said steps have been implemented to assign designated lanes to the EV buses.<\/p>\n Abban explained that since the traffic situation is directional, the lanes assigned will be in the opposite direction to deal with the problem.<\/p>\n He added that the government has trained head potters and ladies to drive the buses as part of its inclusion agenda.<\/p>\n The GAPTE Director spoke at the launch of 100 electric buses by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on November 27, 2024.<\/p>\n This transformative initiative, which highlights Ghana’s commitment to sustainable development, marks the beginning of a new era in urban mobility, with significant economic, environmental, and social benefits.<\/p>\n The launch, a collaborative effort between Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) and the Greater Accra Passenger Transport Executive (GAPTE), introduces electric buses as a cost-effective, eco-friendly alternative to conventional transportation.<\/p>\n The project also aligns with Ghana’s agenda to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and promote affordable, efficient public transport services for all.<\/p>\n The highlight of this initiative is its potential to reduce transportation costs significantly. Commuters can expect fare reductions of between 40-50%.
