{"id":256247,"date":"2024-11-27T06:41:13","date_gmt":"2024-11-27T06:41:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/27\/2024-elections-is-a-choice-between-the-future-and-the-past-says-sammi-awuku\/"},"modified":"2024-11-27T06:41:13","modified_gmt":"2024-11-27T06:41:13","slug":"2024-elections-is-a-choice-between-the-future-and-the-past-says-sammi-awuku","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/27\/2024-elections-is-a-choice-between-the-future-and-the-past-says-sammi-awuku\/","title":{"rendered":"2024 elections is a choice between the future and the past, says Sammi Awuku"},"content":{"rendered":"<br><div id=\"article-text\">\n                       \n                        \n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 2024 general elections represent a pivotal moment for Ghana, offering voters a choice between the future and the past, according to NPP National Organiser Sammi Awuku. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking on Joy News\u2019 <em>PM Express<\/em>, Awuku framed the election as a contest of competing visions, with the NPP representing progress and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) symbolising regression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis election is an election between Ghana\u2019s past and Ghana\u2019s future,\u201d Awuku declared. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He argued that a vote for the NDC\u2019s presidential candidate would return the country to unaccountable governance, as the candidate would only have one term to deliver. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In contrast, the NPP\u2019s candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, offers \u201cbold solutions\u201d and the opportunity for continuity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBawumia becomes president and performs to the satisfaction of many Ghanaians,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Awuku acknowledged the economic challenges facing Ghana but maintained that these are global phenomena exacerbated by events like the COVID-19 pandemic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat we have gone through is not just limited to the Ghanaian situation\u2014it\u2019s a global economic situation,\u201d he said, stating that the NPP has not turned its back on the people despite the hardships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He highlighted key achievements under the NPP, including the expansion of National Health Insurance enrollment from 11.3 million to 17.5 million people and the implementation of free senior high school (SHS) education. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cRegardless of the challenges, the Free SHS policy has been one of the single most important interventions in our nation\u2019s history,\u201d Sammi Awuku noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He contrasted these accomplishments with the perceived failures of the NDC, urging voters to prioritise the future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is not a government that bows when there are challenges.
