The vice presidential candidate of the Nation\u00adal Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, says it is decep\u00adtive for the government to spruce up existing schools and inaugurate them as new schools.<\/p>\n
She questioned the govern\u00adment\u2019s commitment to ensuring quality education for the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we commissioned schools, it meant it was complete. The library was stocked, the class\u00adrooms were set with furniture, the computer rooms had computers and there were teachers already assigned with teaching and learning materials, meaning that the school was operational. That was our defi\u00adnition of a school we were going to commission, \u201cProf. Opoku- Agyemang explained.<\/p>\n
She was addressing NDC sup\u00adporters at Kpetinga in the Gush\u00adiegu Constituency on Thursday, as part of her campaign tour of the Northern Region.<\/p>\n
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang called on the Akufo-Addo\/Bawumia government to do a full disclosure of the number of schools it has completed in eight years.<\/p>\n
She said \u201cit is not enough to buy a few gallons of paints to spruce up school buildings com\u00adpleted by the erstwhile Mahama administration and claim owner\u00adship of them.\u201d<\/p>\n
Prof Opoku-Agyemang claimed that since assuming office, the NPP government has messed up the education sector.<\/p>\n
According to her, former President Mahama\u2019s administration introduced many interventions, saying the textbook ratio was one book to three children.<\/p>\n
She said \u201cby the time we were leaving, it was one book to a school child. Not only that, the interven\u00adtion included the free sandals and school bag per child.\u201d<\/p>\n
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said \u201cAll these we were doing, people didn\u2019t see as intervention because they have crossed that bridge. And because they have crossed that bridge, they didn\u2019t care about those who were behind the bridge\u201d.<\/p>\n
She urged the electorate to vote massively for NDC presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, and NDC parliamentary candidates in the upcoming December 7 gen\u00aderal elections.<\/p>\n
She said a vote for Mr Mahama will propel him to victory to reset the country and fix the challenges, including those in the education sector.<\/p>\n
