An online video captures a New Patriotic Party (NPP) campaign vehicle engulfed in flames by the roadside, drawing widespread reactions from Ghanaians. According to the video’s caption, the fire is believed to have been caused by the vehicle overheating. The man recording the incident, speaking in Twi, can be heard saying, “NPP vehicles that just caught fire right now.”

The footage shows thick plumes of smoke rising from the burning vehicle, with no immediate signs of intervention from the fire service or passersby attempting to extinguish the flames. This has raised questions about emergency response times and preparedness in such incidents.

Ghanaians who have seen the video on social media have expressed varied opinions. Some dismissed the incident as a minor setback for the ruling party, suggesting they have the resources to replace the vehicle effortlessly. Others criticized the use of taxpayer money to fund such replacements, with some commenters venting their frustrations over broader governance issues. One user commented, “We know they will replace this with 10 more pickups,” implying that the loss would hardly affect the party’s campaign machinery. Another wrote, “NPP car? We wish them the same mess they have caused us. They haven’t seen anything yet,” reflecting anger and dissatisfaction with the party’s governance.

This incident has sparked a broader conversation about accountability, resource allocation, and the use of public funds in Ghana. While some see it as a minor inconvenience for the party, others view it as a metaphor for the nation’s perceived challenges.

See more reactions below;

The burning vehicle may have been an isolated incident, but the reactions it provoked reveal a deeper undercurrent of dissatisfaction among citizens.
