{"id":254582,"date":"2024-11-22T12:04:49","date_gmt":"2024-11-22T12:04:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/22\/i-coined-the-term-hype-man-in-ghana-merqury-quaye\/"},"modified":"2024-11-22T12:04:49","modified_gmt":"2024-11-22T12:04:49","slug":"i-coined-the-term-hype-man-in-ghana-merqury-quaye","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/22\/i-coined-the-term-hype-man-in-ghana-merqury-quaye\/","title":{"rendered":"I coined the term &#8216;hype man&#8217; in Ghana &#8211; Merqury Quaye"},"content":{"rendered":"<br><div id=\"article-text\">\n                       \n                        \n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ghanaian broadcaster and event MC, Merqury Quaye, has disclosed that he was first person to use the term &#8216;hype man&#8217; in Ghana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Merqury, also the Founder of the Guinness Ghana DJ Awards made this statement in an interview with Doreen Avio on <em>Daybreak Hitz<\/em> while responding some comments made by one of the award winners of Hype man category in this year&#8217;s edition, Kojo Manuel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;It is very important to mention that this is a category of the Guinness Ghana DJ Award that I am interested in, because as you may know, I am Ghana&#8217;s hype man. I am the first person to actually coin the word &#8216;hypeman&#8217; in Ghana. I started this, so when we curated the Guinness Ghana DJ Awards, we were not going to leave it to a stroke of serendipity. It had to be included and I am very happy about the progress that this category has made in the award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kojo Manuel had complained about the joint award he received for the Best MC\/Hypeman category, stating that he believed he was the sole winner of that slot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kojo, a radio presenter at YFM in Accra, was adjudged the Best MC\/Hypeman of the Year at the 2024 Ghana DJ Awards held at the Palms Convention Centre in Accra, Ghana on Saturday, November 9, 2024, alongside MC Portfolio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking in a recent interview on 3 Music TV, Kojo said: \u201cI don\u2019t believe there\u2019s anything like a tie. I don\u2019t think Ghana would have an election and say the NPP and NDC won. I never understand the notion behind the tie and I haven\u2019t had any official statement from the Ghana DJ Awards on why that happened.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEverybody knows the work I\u2019ve done the year under review so I don\u2019t know what you\u2019re comparing it to. Unfortunately, we\u2019ve got to a point where you win an award and you have to explain yourself&#8230;,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Responding to Kojo&#8217;s comments on\u00a0<strong>Hitz FM<\/strong>, the Founder of the Guinness Ghana DJ Awards, Merqury Quaye, told host Doreen Avio, he was disappointed in what the YFM presenter said on 3Music TV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I am very disappointed in Kojo Manuel for his output regarding his commentary on this. It is okay to register your displeasure about something but I think the tangent he is on, leaves a lot to be desired. I have heard him say that he doesn&#8217;t believe there is anything like a tie. It is very unfortunate for a person of his calibre to be saying something like this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I expect him to know a lot better than that. There is a tie in a lot of competitions. Even in football matches, you can have a draw. When it comes to award programmes, you can talk about the Grammys. There are ties in the Grammys. You can talk about BET. If you may recall, in 2015 and Wizkid had a tie but Sarkodie did not come out to rant like Kojo Manuel is doing,&#8221; Merqury said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He therefore wondered why Kojo Manuel did not complain about the previous awards he won from the scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Aside that I think that he should get off his high horse it is the same programme that adjudged him the best MC and he was very proud of and he was mentioning on all the platforms. So he should remember that it is the same platform he is talking about. Why did he not come out to mention that he needed to understand why he won Best Hypeman last year? Why did he not come out to ask that the DJ Awards should come out and give him a break down of how he won the Hypeman last two years?
