Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is poised to receive 28 more gold ornaments and regalia dated to the 19th-century creations of royal artisans of the Asante Court and others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The official presentation this weekend would be at a mini durbar at the Manhyia Palace which coincides with the centenary anniversary of the return from exile in the Seychelles of his grand-uncle, Nana Agyeman Prempeh I. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10032643185 lazyload ewww_webp_lazy_load\" src=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image-57-42-768x1024.jpg\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" data-eio-rwidth=\"768\" data-eio-rheight=\"1024\" src-webp=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image-57-42-768x1024.jpg.webp\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image-57-42-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10032643185\" data-eio=\"l\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The durbar would also be in honour of the Visiting President of the Republic of Seychelles, His Excellency Wavel Ramkalawan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Originally part of the Collection of <em>African Gold of the AngloGold Ashanti<\/em> in South Africa, the Asantehene made a direct invention earlier this year to the multinational company (formerly Ashanti Goldfields) which led to an agreement of deaccession. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They had previously been part of the <em>Gold of Africa Museum of AngloGold Ashanti<\/em> in Cape Town before they were transferred to the Javett Art Centre at the University of Pretoria. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10032643186 lazyload ewww_webp_lazy_load\" src=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image-57-43-768x1024.jpg\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" data-eio-rwidth=\"768\" data-eio-rheight=\"1024\" src-webp=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image-57-43-768x1024.jpg.webp\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image-57-43-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10032643186\" data-eio=\"l\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The deaccession to Kumasi however follows the approval of the export permit given three weeks ago by the Reserve Bank of South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Historian and Associate Director of the Manhyia Palace Museum, Ivor Agyeman-Duah who did the authentication of acquisition coordinated with a member of the Ghana Board of AngloGold Ashanti and former Member of Parliament of Obuasi, Edward Michael Ennin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He described the acquisition as objects of linguist staff, swords and palace security locks and of regalia of rings and necklaces, proverbial gold-weights of crocodiles and gold scandals reflecting court governance structure and chiefship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10032643187 lazyload ewww_webp_lazy_load\" src=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image-57-44-768x1024.jpg\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" data-eio-rwidth=\"768\" data-eio-rheight=\"1024\" src-webp=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image-57-44-768x1024.jpg.webp\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image-57-44-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10032643187\" data-eio=\"l\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Though they had been produced over a century ago, they were purchased by the wealthy Swiss collector of West African art, Joseph Mueller in 1922 and would be part of his collection which was later turned into the Barbier-Mueller Museum in Geneva. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2000, AngloGold Ashanti bought the Barbier-Muller Collection of 350 objects show-casing the best gold-smithery in West Africa and housed them in a century-old Dutch East Indian Company building in Cape Town. The Collection\u2019s return to its origins in Africa was hailed as a major cultural event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was later on that the AngloGold Ashanti\u2019s <em>Gold of Africa Museum<\/em> would merge with the Geneva-based one and became the AngloGold Ashanti Gold of Africa Museum-Barbier Muller Museum in Pretoria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These objects, Mr. Agyeman-Duah explained would go into a new contemporary art gallery the Asantehene has recently added to the Manhyia Palace Museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An AngloGold Ashanti delegation to be led by the Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer, Stewart Bailey which will include the Senior Vice President of Group Sustainability, Baso Sangou, the Senior Vice President Africa Non-Operated Venture, Eric Asuoboteng and Legal Resource for Corporate Affairs, Aviona Mabaso, are expected in Kumasi for the presentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10032643189 lazyload ewww_webp_lazy_load\" src=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image-57-45-768x1024.jpg\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" data-eio-rwidth=\"768\" data-eio-rheight=\"1024\" src-webp=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image-57-45-768x1024.jpg.webp\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image-57-45-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10032643189\" data-eio=\"l\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A fellow of the Yale University\u2019s Director\u2019s Forum, Lekgetho Mokola who was formerly Director of the Javett Art Centre in Pretoria says it\u2019s a major internal accomplishment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAfrica is now taking the lead in restitution within its territories to deal with its colonial legacies.
