{"id":254252,"date":"2024-11-21T22:10:20","date_gmt":"2024-11-21T22:10:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/21\/postecoglou-backs-bentancur-appeal-after-mistake\/"},"modified":"2024-11-21T22:10:20","modified_gmt":"2024-11-21T22:10:20","slug":"postecoglou-backs-bentancur-appeal-after-mistake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/21\/postecoglou-backs-bentancur-appeal-after-mistake\/","title":{"rendered":"Postecoglou backs Bentancur appeal after &#8216;mistake&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<br><p>Rodrigo Bentancur (left) is available for Europa League matches during his seven-game domestic ban\n\n<\/p><div id=\"article-text\">\n                       \n                        \n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou says midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur is an &#8220;outstanding person&#8221; who made a &#8220;mistake&#8221; with the racial slur made against team-mate Son Heung-min.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Uruguay international, 27, was\u00a0banned for seven matches\u00a0by the Football Association earlier this week, following the comments he made while appearing on\u00a0Uruguayan television in June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spurs have\u00a0appealed against the ban, saying they accept the guilty finding but not the severity of the punishment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I fully support the club&#8217;s decision to appeal the severity of the ban,&#8221; Postecoglou told\u00a0Sky Sports,\u00a0external.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I spoke to him in the lead-up [to the FA&#8217;s decision] and as I said he understands he&#8217;s made a mistake and he&#8217;s prepared to accept whatever penalty comes his way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We as a club are going to support him because the one thing that&#8217;s undeniable to me &#8211; because I know him &#8211; is that he&#8217;s an outstanding person, an unbelievable team-mate and a person of the utmost character that&#8217;s made a mistake.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Postecoglou says he accepts the FA&#8217;s guilty verdict and that Bentancur will miss a number of matches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the media interview in question, asked by a presenter for a Tottenham shirt, Bentancur replied: &#8220;Sonny&#8217;s?
