Kofi Akpaloo, the presidential candidate of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), has called on European embassies to impose visa restrictions on individuals who disrupt the upcoming December 7 polls.<\/p>\n
According to him, this measure would discourage electoral misconduct by preventing perpetrators from travelling abroad.<\/p>\n
His appeal followed the recent decision by the United States to implement a visa restriction policy targeting individuals involved in undermining democratic processes.<\/p>\n
Announced on Monday, October 28, the policy operates under Section 212(a)(3)(C) of the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act focuses on specific individuals, not the general Ghanaian populace or government.<\/p>\n
Speaking to the media, Akpaloo revealed that he has appealed to U.S. Ambassador Virginia Evelyn Palmer to encourage European embassies to adopt similar policies.<\/p>\n
He believes such measures would further safeguard the integrity of Ghana\u2019s electoral process and promote responsible behaviour among all stakeholders.<\/p>\n
\u201cLooking at the way things are going, I think this election is going to be more peaceful. Recently, we all heard from the American Embassy that anybody who is going to cause chaos will be denied a Visa to travel outside the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cI spoke to the American ambassador as I was seated beside her to ask the European counterpart to also issue the same statement and she said yes, she is going to do that very soon, and she believes the British high commission is going to follow suit\u201d.<\/p>\n
