{"id":253131,"date":"2024-11-20T05:52:44","date_gmt":"2024-11-20T05:52:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/20\/napo-condemns-gnaps-over-priority-placement-petition\/"},"modified":"2024-11-20T05:52:44","modified_gmt":"2024-11-20T05:52:44","slug":"napo-condemns-gnaps-over-priority-placement-petition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/20\/napo-condemns-gnaps-over-priority-placement-petition\/","title":{"rendered":"NAPO condemns GNAPS over priority placement petition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has condemned the Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) for petitioning the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) over alleged discrimination in the Free Senior High School programme.<\/p>\n<p>The private schools contend that the government\u2019s 30 percent priority placement policy, which reserves seats at Category A senior high schools for public school students is discriminatory towards private school students.<\/p>\n<p>However, on Tuesday, November 19, during an engagement with students of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), the NPP\u2019s running mate rebuked the private schools for their stance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI heard Ghana National Association of Private Schools are telling us that they are going to court to stop the Free SHS for allocating 30 percent of placements to poor children who go to public schools: the audacity, the audacity, the nerve.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reality was that when I introduced 30 percent for equity, I didn\u2019t pluck it from the sky.
