{"id":252818,"date":"2024-11-19T14:20:10","date_gmt":"2024-11-19T14:20:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/19\/workshop-to-boost-biosecurity-practices-in-ghanas-livestock-and-aquaculture-sectors-held\/"},"modified":"2024-11-19T14:20:10","modified_gmt":"2024-11-19T14:20:10","slug":"workshop-to-boost-biosecurity-practices-in-ghanas-livestock-and-aquaculture-sectors-held","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/19\/workshop-to-boost-biosecurity-practices-in-ghanas-livestock-and-aquaculture-sectors-held\/","title":{"rendered":"Workshop to boost biosecurity practices in Ghana\u2019s livestock and aquaculture sectors held"},"content":{"rendered":"<br><div id=\"article-text\">\n                       \n                        \n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A workshop focused on developing a biosecurity and bio-certification framework in Ghana&#8217;s aquaculture, poultry and piggery sectors has taken place at Koforidua in the Eastern region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The aim is to update stakeholders and partners on progress in establishing biosecurity measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The programme, organized by the African Women in Agribusiness Network, AWIA, and the African Women in Animal Resource Farming and Agribusiness, AgriBiz, with funding support from GIZ was to advocate for a comprehensive Biosecurity and Bio-certification framework as well as to strategize future steps for enhancing biosecurity practices in Ghana\u2019s livestock and aquaculture sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10032640908 lazyload ewww_webp_lazy_load\" src=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/c871b4f2-40e8-4c47-894c-2649f6634b6b.jpeg\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" data-eio-rwidth=\"800\" data-eio-rheight=\"450\" src-webp=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/c871b4f2-40e8-4c47-894c-2649f6634b6b.jpeg.webp\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/c871b4f2-40e8-4c47-894c-2649f6634b6b.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10032640908\" data-eio=\"l\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Country President for African Women in Animal Resource Farming, AWARFA-N, Dr Mrs Victoria Afua Norgbey highlighted how far the biosecurity standards and the bio-certification framework have reached and how useful it will be for all the stakeholders involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to her, measures were progressing steadily to advance the biosecurity framework to certify farms that adhere to strict safety standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She explained that the collaboration underscored the necessity of a unified response to strengthen biosecurity protocols, reduce risks and ensure compliance with international standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A senior Veterinary Officer at the Fish Health Unit of the Fisheries Commission, Dr Ewurabena Ntiamoah Bediako, also stated that officers at her outfit are being trained to help farmers develop their biosecurity management plans to produce safe and quality fish for both local and international markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The workshop highlighted the critical need for robust biosecurity frameworks to safeguard Ghana&#8217;s agriculture sectors and protect the well-being of both livestock and consumers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Participants recommended enhanced communication with stakeholders, the development of a national biosecurity plan, the enactment of the necessary legislation, and the establishment of standards to support the biosecurity framework.<\/p>\n\n                <p><strong>DISCLAIMER: <\/strong>The Views, Comments, Opinions, Contributions and Statements made by Readers and Contributors on this platform do not necessarily represent the views or policy of Multimedia Group Limited.<\/p>      \n               \n <!-- Post Tags -->\n                \n\n                        \n\n    \n                                 \n                                             \n                    <\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A workshop focused on developing a biosecurity and bio-certification framework in Ghana&#8217;s aquaculture, poultry and piggery sectors has taken place at Koforidua in the Eastern region.
