{"id":252572,"date":"2024-11-19T07:15:10","date_gmt":"2024-11-19T07:15:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/19\/majority-caucus-accuses-asiedu-nketiah-of-engineering-parliamentary-stand-off\/"},"modified":"2024-11-19T07:15:10","modified_gmt":"2024-11-19T07:15:10","slug":"majority-caucus-accuses-asiedu-nketiah-of-engineering-parliamentary-stand-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/19\/majority-caucus-accuses-asiedu-nketiah-of-engineering-parliamentary-stand-off\/","title":{"rendered":"Majority caucus accuses Asiedu Nketiah of engineering parliamentary stand-off"},"content":{"rendered":"<br><div id=\"article-text\">\n                       \n                        \n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Majority in Parliament has accused Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), of encouraging the Minority Caucus to disrupt parliamentary proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They claim that Nketiah&#8217;s influence has consistently interfered with the smooth functioning of legislative activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This accusation comes after a recent directive from Asiedu Nketiah, advising NDC MPs to boycott any emergency sessions of Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He alleged that such sessions would only serve corrupt interests, casting doubt on the motives behind the recall of Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Read Also: <\/strong>\u2018Let them burn the sea; don\u2019t return if Parliament is recalled\u2019 \u2013 Asiedu Nketiah to NDC MPs<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In response to these developments, Alex Tetteh Djornobuah, the Second Deputy Majority Whip, strongly condemned the NDC Chairman\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He argued that Nketiah\u2019s stance undermines the parliamentary process, potentially hindering the country&#8217;s legislative progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Djornobuah emphasised that the legislative body must function without undue interference, warning that such political manoeuvres could damage Ghana\u2019s democratic institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He called for greater cooperation among all parties to ensure effective governance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI disagree with the National Chairman of the NDC. If you will recall, about two or three weeks ago, what happened in Parliament, was not the fault of the Members of Parliament.
