{"id":251642,"date":"2024-11-15T19:30:14","date_gmt":"2024-11-15T19:30:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/15\/bawumias-free-dialysis-pledge-just-a-political-gimmick\/"},"modified":"2024-11-15T19:30:14","modified_gmt":"2024-11-15T19:30:14","slug":"bawumias-free-dialysis-pledge-just-a-political-gimmick","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/15\/bawumias-free-dialysis-pledge-just-a-political-gimmick\/","title":{"rendered":"Bawumia&#8217;s free dialysis pledge just a political gimmick"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Member of Parliament for Juaboso, Kwabena Mintah-Akandoh, has expressed doubt over the recent free dialysis promise made by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).<\/p>\n<p>Akandoh described the promise, set to take effect on December 1, 2024, as a political gimmick.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement issued on November 15, Akandoh criticized the promise as another empty pledge from a government that has failed to effectively address Ghana\u2019s healthcare challenges.<\/p>\n<p>He pointed out that the free dialysis initiative lacks a clear policy framework and is not mentioned in the NPP\u2019s 2024 manifesto.<\/p>\n<p>The lawmaker also highlighted the absence of funding for the initiative in the 2024 National Health Insurance Fund Allocation Formula, questioning the feasibility of the promise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe recent pledge by Dr. Bawumia to provide free dialysis treatment for kidney patients starting December 1 is yet another empty, reactionary promise from a government that has persistently failed to address the healthcare needs of Ghanaians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis promise has no credible policy framework, there is absolutely no reference to it in the NPP 2024 Manifesto, there is no allocation whatsoever in the 2024 National Health Insurance Fund Allocation Formula, neither is there any necessary budgetary support provision in 2024 Budget prepared by the Economic Management Team headed by Dr Bawumia. This hollow commitment, for all intents and purposes, is a deceptive attempt to win public favour in the lead-up to the elections.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to him, Dr. Bawumia\u2019s recent pledge to cover dialysis treatment is a reaction to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama\u2019s bold promise to fund dialysis and cancer treatment under the Mahama Cares programme.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is evident that Dr. Bawumia\u2019s recent pledge to cover dialysis treatment is nothing more than a reaction to President John Dramani Mahama\u2019s bold promise to fund dialysis and cancer treatment under the Mahama Cares program.
