John Mahama , the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has justified his proposal to cancel the supply of food items to Senior High Schools (SHSs) by the National Food Buffer Stock company as part his plans to review the Free SHS policy.<\/p>\n
He cited the recent allegation by North Tongu Member of Parliament (MP), Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa of the distribution of 22,000 bags of expired and repackaged rice to SHSs nationwide in February this year.<\/p>\n
Ablakwa during a media interaction on Thursday November 14, 2024, claimed that the National Food Buffer Stock company conspired with an entity known as Lamens Investments Africa Limited to carry out the purported distribution.<\/p>\n
Addressing a gathering at Asawinso as part of his Western North region campaign on Friday, Mahama made a case for the decentralisation of food supply in SHSs.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know you have heard that some expired and repackaged bags of rice have been distributed by the National Buffer Stock to various SHSs across the country for our kids to eat.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat is why we say we won\u2019t buy foodstuff for the schools. The money for the food will be given to the schools directly to make such purchases,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
