{"id":251034,"date":"2024-11-14T18:40:52","date_gmt":"2024-11-14T18:40:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/14\/nlc-secures-injunction-to-halt-strike-by-ghana-highway-authority-workers\/"},"modified":"2024-11-14T18:40:52","modified_gmt":"2024-11-14T18:40:52","slug":"nlc-secures-injunction-to-halt-strike-by-ghana-highway-authority-workers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/14\/nlc-secures-injunction-to-halt-strike-by-ghana-highway-authority-workers\/","title":{"rendered":"NLC secures injunction to halt strike by Ghana Highway Authority workers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The National Labour Commission (NLC) has secured a ten-day interim injunction against the strike action by the Senior Staff Association of the Ghana Highway Authority and the Ghana Highway Workers Union (CBMWU-TUC).<\/p>\n<p>The injunction was granted after the NLC filed the application at the High court on Wednesday, November 13 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The court after hearing the argument by counsel for Executive Secretary of the NLC, Ofosu Amoah directed that the strike which commenced on Tuesday, November 12 should not proceed further.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is hereby ordered that the Respondents, whether by their executives, officers, members, agents, servants, employees, or other persons, are restrained from further continuation of the industrial strike action commenced on November 12, 2024,\u201d the court stated.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-432627 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/3news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/NLC-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"777\" height=\"574\" srcset=\"https:\/\/3news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/NLC-2.jpg 777w, https:\/\/3news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/NLC-2-300x222.jpg 300w, https:\/\/3news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/NLC-2-768x567.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 777px) 100vw, 777px\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The court further ordered that the Association comply with the NLC\u2019s directives dated November 6, 2024, and call off the industrial strike action.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe application is granted for 10 days and upon its expiration the Applicant will have to come back to court on notice,\u201d the court added.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-432628 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/3news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/NLC-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"788\" height=\"630\" srcset=\"https:\/\/3news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/NLC-1.jpg 788w, https:\/\/3news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/NLC-1-300x240.jpg 300w, https:\/\/3news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/NLC-1-768x614.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 788px) 100vw, 788px\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The Union and Senior Staff Association of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) began a nationwide strike on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, in protest against the implementation of the National Roads Authority Act, 2024 (Act 1118).<\/p>\n<p>The strike involved workers at the GHA\u2019s head office, regional offices, road maintenance units, and other facilities across the country.<\/p>\n<p>The Association outlined several key demands, including halting the implementation of the Act and revoking  appointments made under it, which they argue violate Ghana\u2019s Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese appointments are void, as they contravene Article 195 of the 1992 Constitution,\u201d the Association said in a statement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Labour Commission (NLC) has secured a ten-day interim injunction against the strike action by the Senior Staff Association of the Ghana Highway Authority and the Ghana Highway Workers Union (CBMWU-TUC).
