{"id":249994,"date":"2024-11-13T07:39:20","date_gmt":"2024-11-13T07:39:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/13\/appraisal-of-springfields-afina-well-nears-successful-completion\/"},"modified":"2024-11-13T07:39:20","modified_gmt":"2024-11-13T07:39:20","slug":"appraisal-of-springfields-afina-well-nears-successful-completion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/13\/appraisal-of-springfields-afina-well-nears-successful-completion\/","title":{"rendered":"Appraisal of Springfield&#8217;s Afina Well nears successful completion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Springfield Exploration and Production Ltd. is on the brink of completing appraisal drilling at its Afina well in the West Cape Three Points (WCTP) Block2 offshore Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>The about $60 million appraisal being conducted by the Deepsea Bollsta Rig is to confirm the production capacity and commercial viability of the well after an international arbitration court ordered the appraisal for the unitization of Springfield\u2019s Afina discovery and ENI\u2019s Sankofa field.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1106985\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/SpringField2-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1440\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>The Afina well which was initially discovered in 2019, has shown prospects of producing more than 600 million barrels of oil per day.<\/p>\n<p>Springfield is upbeat, the appraisal outcome will boost Ghana\u2019s oil output and make it the first Ghanaian-owned oil company to drill in Ghana\u2019s deep-water territory.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1106986\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/SpringField5-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1440\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Well Test Officer, Willem Drogt\u00a0says the appraisal will be completed within the stipulated timeframe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s going forward. I can say it\u2019s going forward. We are very happy about how the appraisal is progressing. We are very optimistic of getting the needed data in time. There were some delays due to some unexpected failures and equipment. But it is all rectified and we expect to be done in a couple of days\u201d, he assured.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1106987\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/SpringField13.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1438\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Mr. Drogt was speaking to a group of journalists who took a tour on the rig to familiarise themselves with the progress of work on the WCTP Block2.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe objective is to get hydrocarbons at surface and see how big the reservoir is for Springfield. Hopefully it is economically worth to proceed in this field\u201d, the Well Test Officer added.<\/p>\n<p>The project has been hailed as a game-changer for Ghana\u2019s energy landscape and should it be successfully completed for full-scale development, it could set a precedent for increased local participation in the oil and gas industry in Africa. <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1106988\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/SpringField8-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1440\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>This strategic initiative is in partnership with GNPC and GNPC Explorco to advance Ghana\u2019s oil production by aiming to finalize the unitization of the Afina-Sankofa fields to ultimately bring significant value to the government of Ghana and all stakeholders involved.<\/p>\n<p>The Deepsea Bollsta Rig from Northern Ocean Limited (NOL) arrived in Ghana on October 18 and started work on Sunday, October 20, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Other blue chip service companies, both local and international have been engaged to offer support services related to the ongoing operations.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1106989\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/SpringField6-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1440\"  \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Springfield Exploration and Production Ltd. is on the brink of completing appraisal drilling at its Afina well in the West Cape Three Points (WCTP) Block2 offshore Ghana.
