Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central, has expressed her gratitude, saying that \u201cGod has vindicated\u201d her following the Sekondi High Court\u2019s decision to set aside an injunction that had barred her from contesting the seat.<\/p>\n
The injunction stemmed from a legal dispute after Cudjoe\u2019s victory in the NDC\u2019s May 2023 parliamentary primaries, where she won decisively.<\/p>\n
However, some dissatisfied party members filed a lawsuit, leading to an interlocutory injunction that temporarily prevented her from being recognized as the NDC candidate.<\/p>\n
The situation took another turn when the NDC\u2019s Functional Executive Committee annulled the May primary results and held fresh primaries on September 8, 2024, where Cudjoe again emerged victorious.<\/p>\n
Despite this, the Electoral Commission disqualified her, citing the earlier injunction linked to the contested May election results.<\/p>\n
The NDC subsequently pursued a legal challenge to defend Cudjoe\u2019s candidacy, filing a fresh writ at the Sekondi High Court after the Accra High Court dismissed an application to halt the Electoral Commission\u2019s preparations for the Amenfi Central election.<\/p>\n
On Monday, November 11, 2024, His Lordship George K. Gyan-Kontoh ruled that the original grounds for the injunction had changed, especially since the NDC had annulled the contested May primary and conducted a fresh election.<\/p>\n
He noted that the incumbent MP, Kwakye Ackah, had opted not to participate in the new primaries, further solidifying Cudjoe\u2019s candidacy. Consequently, the court lifted the injunction, clearing her path to contest in the upcoming election.<\/p>\n
In an interview with Citi News, a relieved and elated Cudjoe thanked God for her \u201cvindication\u201d and expressed her gratitude to the NDC and its members for their steadfast support.<\/p>\n
She encouraged her supporters in Amenfi Central to celebrate the victory, announcing her plans to officially launch her campaign and see it through to the December elections.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe thank God for everything that has happened today, especially my new lawyers who came in to rescue me\u2026I thank God and all the NDC members, executives, and all the Western Region NDC. I must say I am very happy.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI have done no wrong. My only wrong was contesting and winning an election, and God indeed has proven people wrong\u2026So I am coming home, and we will do our campaign launch and proceed with all we have to do. I know people are awaiting my arrival, so they should make merry because God has made this happen,\u201d Cudjoe said.<\/p>\n
