A whistleblower, Owula Mangortey, has written to Major-General BK Onwona, the Chief of Army Staff, demanding a public inquiry into $8 million donation allegedly received by Lt. Colonel (rtd) Gbevlo-Lartey on behalf of Ghanaian soldiers.<\/p>\n
This development follows a defamation suit filed by Lt. Colonel Gbevlo-Lartey against Owula Mangortey, seeking GHC10 million in damages.<\/p>\n
Background of the Controversy<\/strong><\/p>\nOwula Mangortey, a self-proclaimed whistleblower with a known face and address, has been monitoring military and security deployments in the Upper East Region since 2021.<\/p>\n
On November 3, 2024, he received a message from Lt. Colonel Gbevlo-Lartey\u2019s WhatsApp number, informing him of the defamation suit.<\/p>\n
This suit stems from an article written by Owula Mangortey, alleging that Larry Gbevlo-Lartey collected $8 million from a telecommunication company for the soldiers.<\/p>\n
Previous Defamation Suit<\/strong><\/p>\nInterestingly, this is not Owula Mangortey\u2019s first encounter with defamation suits. In 2019, he was sued by Kwame Dankwah also known as Ola Durojaiye, a security expert and private investigator, for GHC1 million.<\/p>\n
However, Owula Mangortey claims that Kwame Dankwah was an ex-convict impersonating a military ranger and molesting soldiers.<\/p>\n
Call for Transparency<\/strong><\/p>\nOwula Mangortey is now seeking a public inquiry into the $8 million donation, requesting that the inquiry be held at the Burma Hall in the presence of soldiers and media.<\/p>\n
He vows to reveal the name of the telecommunication company, the date, and the official who donated.<\/p>\n
