{"id":248639,"date":"2024-11-11T04:13:22","date_gmt":"2024-11-11T04:13:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/11\/ken-kuranchie-petitions-akufo-addo-for-removal-of-special-prosecutor-citing-misconduct-and-security-risks\/"},"modified":"2024-11-11T04:13:22","modified_gmt":"2024-11-11T04:13:22","slug":"ken-kuranchie-petitions-akufo-addo-for-removal-of-special-prosecutor-citing-misconduct-and-security-risks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/11\/ken-kuranchie-petitions-akufo-addo-for-removal-of-special-prosecutor-citing-misconduct-and-security-risks\/","title":{"rendered":"Ken Kuranchie petitions Akufo-Addo for removal of Special Prosecutor, citing &#8216;Misconduct and security risks&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<br><div id=\"article-text\">\n                       \n                        \n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Editor-in-Chief of <em>The Daily Searchlight<\/em>, Kenneth Kwabena Agyei Kuranchie, has formally requested that President Nana Akufo-Addo dismiss Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng from office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He alleges serious breaches of conduct, including violations of his oaths of office and secrecy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an October 18, 2024 letter, Kuranchie argued that Agyebeng\u2019s actions meet the criteria for removal outlined in Section 15.(1) of the Special Prosecutor Act (Act 959), which details conditions under which the Special Prosecutor may be dismissed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Citing the Act, he stated, \u201cPetitioner presents this petition for the removal of the Special Prosecutor, Mr Kissi Agyebeng, on the authority of Section 15. (1) of the Special Prosecutor Act, (Act 959) of 2017,\u201d noting that grounds for removal include \u201cstated misbehaviour, incompetence, incapacity\u2026willful violation of the Official Oath and Oath of Secrecy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kuranchie\u2019s claims include allegations that Agyebeng authorized polygraph tests for 80% of the Office\u2019s staff, not through Ghana\u2019s National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), but instead via the United States\u2019 Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10032635385 lazyload ewww_webp_lazy_load\" src=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image-23-11-768x1024.jpg\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" data-eio-rwidth=\"768\" data-eio-rheight=\"1024\" src-webp=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image-23-11-768x1024.jpg.webp\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image-23-11-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10032635385\" data-eio=\"l\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPetitioner states, first, that this work was not done by the N.I.B, and second, this work was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), an agency of the government of the United States of America, a foreign nation,\u201d Mr Kuranchie asserted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He contends this constitutes \u201cstated misbehaviour\u201d and violates the Data Protection Act, emphasizing that \u201cthese acts amount to willful violation of the Official Oath and Oath of Secrecy; and are prejudicial or inimical to the economy or security of the State.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kuranchie underscored that these alleged breaches make Agyebeng unfit for office, per Section 15.(1)(a) of Act 959, and has urged the president to take action.
