{"id":248071,"date":"2024-11-08T13:58:27","date_gmt":"2024-11-08T13:58:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/08\/unpeaceful-election-would-be-incredibly-damaging-for-ghana-british-high-commissioner-warns\/"},"modified":"2024-11-08T13:58:27","modified_gmt":"2024-11-08T13:58:27","slug":"unpeaceful-election-would-be-incredibly-damaging-for-ghana-british-high-commissioner-warns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/08\/unpeaceful-election-would-be-incredibly-damaging-for-ghana-british-high-commissioner-warns\/","title":{"rendered":"Unpeaceful election would be incredibly damaging for Ghana \u2013 British High Commissioner warns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Harriet Thompson, has cautioned that an election without peace would be incredibly damaging for Ghana.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>She observed during the King\u2019s Birthday celebration in Accra on Thursday, November 7, that politicians and other influential persons in Ghana are in a position to avert chaos in the upcoming general elections.<\/p>\n<p>Madam Thompson revealed that some Ghanaians fear that the December 7 elections may not be as peaceful as compared to previous ones.<\/p>\n<div class=\"inline-single-ad ad_single_index alignfull\">\n<div class=\"ad-wrap ad-script-wrap\">\n<div class=\"ad-script non-adsense edge-padding\">\n<p>According to her, interactions with key stakeholders and \u201ca range of people\u201d indicate that there could be potential violence.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, my colleagues and I are frequently told by a range of people that they fear Ghana\u2019s 2024 elections will be less peaceful than previous elections,\u201d Harriet Thompson stated.<\/p>\n<div class=\"AV664c99c3bb37d4ef5a0f3cab\">\n<div id=\"aniBox\">\n<div id=\"aniplayer_AV664c99c3bb37d4ef5a0f3cab-1731072099062\">\n<div id=\"aniplayer_AV664c99c3bb37d4ef5a0f3cab-1731072099062Wrapper\" class=\"avp-floating-container avp-fixed avp-bottom-left avp-shadow avp-move-right-enter-done\" tabindex=\"0\">\n<p>She added: \u201cAn election that\u2019s not peaceful would be incredibly damaging for Ghana, as well as dangerous, of course, for those directly involved.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe good thing is that politicians and others in influential positions can prevent this from happening,\u201d she emphasized.<\/p>\n<p>Ghanaians go to the polls on December 7 to elect a president and Members of Parliament to manage the  affairs of the country for the next four years starting January 7.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Harriet Thompson, has cautioned that an election without peace would be incredibly damaging for Ghana.
