One commentator noted that it \u201cwould have been commendable if the president had chosen to allow such acknowledgments to be made by future generations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the controversy, some Ghanaians defended the statue, praising Akufo-Addo\u2019s achievements, especially his signature free secondary education policy, which he has cited as his \u201cmost significant legacy.\u201d Supporters regarded him as the architect of Ghana\u2019s free education system, with one admirer commenting, \u201cHe is worthy of this tribute \u2013 the best president I\u2019ve ever known.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The tour also served as a platform for the ruling New Patriotic Party\u2019s (NPP) campaign in anticipation of next month\u2019s general election.
