A former CEO of Stanbic Bank, Alhassan Andani, expressed sharp criticism of the tax administration, describing the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) as operating like a \u201cterrorist organization\u201d in its dealings with businesses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking at the recent Ghana CEO-Presidential Gala Dinner, Mr Andani argued that Ghana\u2019s current tax system is suffocating the private sector, hindering business growth, and fueling corruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI know a number of organisations, when GRA gets into their space, it\u2019s as if they deliberately do it in order to wriggle people\u2019s arms to take money,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He described how many CEOs and businesses now feel a sense of dread when dealing with GRA officials, saying, \u201cWhen GRA is coming, it\u2019s like some terrorists coming.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr Andani underscored the pressing need for tax reforms to simplify, rationalise, and reduce the number of taxes businesses face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
