{"id":247496,"date":"2024-11-07T16:02:29","date_gmt":"2024-11-07T16:02:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/07\/osei-kyei-mensah-bonsu-did-a-better-job-as-leader-than-afenyo-markin-political-sociologist\/"},"modified":"2024-11-07T16:02:29","modified_gmt":"2024-11-07T16:02:29","slug":"osei-kyei-mensah-bonsu-did-a-better-job-as-leader-than-afenyo-markin-political-sociologist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/07\/osei-kyei-mensah-bonsu-did-a-better-job-as-leader-than-afenyo-markin-political-sociologist\/","title":{"rendered":"Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu did a better job as leader than Afenyo-Markin \u2013 Political Sociologist"},"content":{"rendered":"<br><div id=\"article-text\">\n                       \n                        \n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Political Sociologist with the Valley View University, Professor Martin Akotey, has lashed out at the posturing of the leader of the New Patriotic Party caucus in the conduct of government business in parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He described the leadership of Alex Afenyo-Markin as \u201ctoo combative\u201d, lacking a posturing that seeks to negotiate with the opposing side of the house to reach a compromise on certain parliamentary issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prof. Akotey described as \u201cbetter\u201d the conduct of proceedings at the chamber by former Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He was reacting to recent happenings in parliament, including Speaker Alban Bagbin\u2019s brouhaha with the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/POLITICAL.mp3\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOsei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu was doing a much better job than him [Afenyo-Markin]. Let\u2019s not forget it\u2019s the same individuals. I see the posturing of the leader now is too combative,\u201d Prof. Akotey told David Akuetteh on Luv FM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Parliament has adjourned sitting indefinitely following misunderstandings between the two caucuses on who is the Majority side, following the Speaker\u2019s declaration of four seats vacant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But this order was quashed by the Supreme Court after Mr. Afenyo-Markin filed an ex-parte motion to reverse the pronouncement by the Speaker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Business on the floor has hit a stalemate following the recent incidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prof. Akotey says the Effutu MP and the NPP caucus should not appear to have a stronger side in the house when in fact they only have a slight win over the NDC side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10032633921 lazyload ewww_webp_lazy_load\" src=\"http:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/WhatsApp-Image-2024-11-07-at-15.01.29.jpeg\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" data-eio-rwidth=\"800\" data-eio-rheight=\"450\" src-webp=\"http:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/WhatsApp-Image-2024-11-07-at-15.01.29.jpeg.webp\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/WhatsApp-Image-2024-11-07-at-15.01.29.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10032633921\" data-eio=\"l\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI am not happy about their posturing. As a leader, although you belong to a political party, you want things to be done especially for you in government. You want to get the support of the opposition to have programs work or succeed. Your posturing shouldn\u2019t be antagonist but welcoming,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He noted that the NPP leader and his members must adopt strategies that would allow smooth transactions between the two sides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThey should rather adopt the win-win situation because they don\u2019t have the numbers to bulldoze through. There\u2019s more work to be done behind the scenes. But if you assume a posture of, we are stronger than you are, then it wouldn\u2019t work.
