Ahead of Ghana\u2019s December elections, the UN Special Representative for West Africa and the Sahel, Leonardo Santos Sim\u00e3o, has called for stronger communication and transparency between the Electoral Commission (EC), the judiciary, and key political stakeholders, especially the National Democratic Congress (NDC).<\/p>\n
In an interview on Joy News, Sim\u00e3o stressed that open engagement is essential to building trust in the electoral process.<\/p>\n
\u201cContinuous communication is essential to building a transparent and credible electoral process,\u201d Sim\u00e3o stated, expressing hope that the EC and Mahama\u2019s camp maintain open dialogue to ensure a fair and peaceful election.<\/p>\n
Sim\u00e3o also emphasized the need for improved public outreach from the judiciary, acknowledging their professionalism but noting that limited communication has sometimes allowed for misunderstandings.<\/p>\n
\u201cHigh professionalism alone isn\u2019t enough; the quality of communication must also match the stakes involved,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He recommended clearer, audience-specific information\u2014from technical details for legal professionals to broader explanations for the general public.<\/p>\n
