{"id":246305,"date":"2024-11-05T21:41:53","date_gmt":"2024-11-05T21:41:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/05\/ndcs-mustapha-gbande-accuses-npp-of-manipulating-gfp-ballot-position-amid-party-turmoil\/"},"modified":"2024-11-05T21:41:53","modified_gmt":"2024-11-05T21:41:53","slug":"ndcs-mustapha-gbande-accuses-npp-of-manipulating-gfp-ballot-position-amid-party-turmoil","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/11\/05\/ndcs-mustapha-gbande-accuses-npp-of-manipulating-gfp-ballot-position-amid-party-turmoil\/","title":{"rendered":"NDC\u2019s Mustapha Gbande Accuses NPP of Manipulating GFP Ballot Position Amid Party Turmoil"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/38dc167f042349d7af64e2ed5a3abd78\"\/><\/p>\n<p>According to a report by My Joy Online on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Deputy General Secretary, Mustapha Gbande, has stirred the political waters by alleging that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is behind the current disarray within the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP). <\/p>\n<p>This, he claims, is a calculated effort to influence the party\u2019s position on the ballot and secure the symbolic number 8 for themselves in the upcoming December elections.<\/p>\n<p>Gbande suggested that the NPP\u2019s move stemmed from the historical belief that the number 8 has been significant for the NDC. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey had never relented on that effort to ensure that we go to the election with the NDC carrying number 8,\u201d he stated, pointing to past electoral trends.<\/p>\n<p>He accused the NPP of attempts to obstruct the GFP\u2019s reinstatement into the electoral contest. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do know that the NPP has done so much to try to frustrate GFP relisting into the contest so that they can succeed in changing numbers\u2026 what they forget is that no political party has really won an election in Ghana on the basis of numbers. So it is the NPP behind this kind of gimmick,\u201d Gbande charged.<\/p>\n<p>The allegations come amidst an ongoing conflict within the GFP over the nomination of a presidential candidate following the death of its founder, Akua Donkor. <\/p>\n<p>The party\u2019s General Secretary formally submitted a letter to the Electoral Commission (EC), naming Philip Kwabena Agyemang, known as Roman Fada, as the new candidate, in line with the EC\u2019s directive to appoint a successor within 10 days, as per Article 40(4) of the 1992 Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>However, a competing letter from the party\u2019s National Organiser, citing consultations with Donkor\u2019s family, announced the GFP\u2019s withdrawal from the race. <\/p>\n<p>Responding to this, Gbande underscored the General Secretary\u2019s authority, stating: <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf a general secretary goes to file with the consent of the candidate willing to contest, what is the business of a national organizer going to file and say, \u2018I have withdrawn\u2019?
