The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has approached the High Court following a legal injunction barring Joana Gyan Cudjoe from holding herself out as the party’s parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central in the upcoming general elections.

The injunction, issued on 5 November 2024, stems from a legal challenge filed by a rival contender, who claims that Cudjoe is not eligible to contest due to unresolved electoral irregularities in her candidacy.

The court ruling has raised concerns within the NDC, as Joana Cudjoe had been the party’s chosen candidate for Amenfi Central after winning the primaries.

The applicant in the case argued that there were procedural violations and issues with her nomination, including the alleged failure to meet certain legal requirements for candidacy.

The injunction effectively prevents Cudjoe from using her position as the NDC’s representative for the parliamentary race in Amenfi Central until the matter is resolved.

In response, the NDC has filed an urgent application to the High Court, seeking to overturn the injunction and allow Cudjoe to continue her campaign.

The party maintains that her candidacy was valid and that the legal challenges are politically motivated.

NDC officials have expressed confidence that the court will rule in their favor, allowing Cudjoe to return to the race without further hindrance.

Joana Gyan Cudjoe, a prominent figure in Amenfi Central’s political landscape, has also maintained her innocence, asserting that her nomination followed all the necessary legal processes.

She has expressed her determination to continue her bid for parliamentary office, claiming the legal challenge is part of an effort to disrupt her growing support in the constituency.

As the case unfolds, both political observers and constituents are eagerly awaiting the court’s next steps, which could significantly impact the NDC’s prospects in the region.
