The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has criticised his political rival, John Dramani Mahama, for what he describes as an outdated approach to economic growth, suggesting the NDC flagbearer\u2019s lack of support for digitalisation makes him unfit to lead in a technology-driven world.<\/p>\n Speaking to a youth gathering on Sunday, 3 November 2024, Dr. Bawumia contended that Mahama\u2019s underestimation of digitalisation\u2019s role in economic progress reflects a backwards-looking perspective, which he claims led to previous economic struggles under Mahama\u2019s leadership.<\/p>\n Dr. Bawumia urged Ghanaians to prioritise digital innovation by voting against Mahama in the upcoming December elections.<\/p>\n \u201cToday, he [Mahama] says there\u2019s no link between digitisation and the economy. Right? How can that be?\u201d Dr. Bawumia questioned.<\/p>\n \u201cIn this 4th industrial revolution, how can we have a leader who doesn\u2019t appreciate the value of digitisation, in a digital global economy?\u201d<\/p>\n The NPP candidate underscored his concerns by questioning Mr. Mahama\u2019s understanding of key economic drivers.<\/p>\n \u201cHe should not be allowed close to the presidency,\u201d he asserted.<\/p>\n He continued: \u201cA leader who doesn\u2019t understand digitisation in today\u2019s world wants to be President of a country like ours, trying to move forward into the future, no.\u201d<\/p>\n Dr. Bawumia also took aim at Mahama\u2019s emphasis on infrastructure as his hallmark achievement, arguing that the NPP\u2019s digital-first approach better serves Ghana\u2019s economic future.<\/p>\n \u201cHe [Mahama] has touted infrastructure as one of his achievements, but because our infrastructure is superior to his. Today, he says infrastructure doesn\u2019t matter for the economy. That the economy is different from infrastructure, how can that be?<\/p>\n \u201cFor someone who has been President of Ghana to say the infrastructure doesn\u2019t have anything to do with the economy\u2014then I understand why the economy collapsed under his watch,\u201d Dr. Bawumia stated.<\/p>\n He was particularly sceptical of Mahama\u2019s \u201824-Hour Economy\u2019 proposal, calling the policy unclear and impractical.<\/p>\n \u201cHis signature 24-hour economy has defied explanation and understanding.
