Accra, Nov. 1, GNA \u2013 Mr. John Dramani Mahama, Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, (NDC) has appealed to factions in the Bawku conflict to allow peace to prevail.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He urged aggrieved parties to \u201cexercise restraint\u201d and \u201csilence the weapons,\u201d following renewed clashes in the area.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cResolving the Bawku conflict will be one of my first priorities when I become President,\u201d he stated in his address at the NDC Governance Forum held in Accra on Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The forum, on the theme \u201cResetting Ghana for Good Governance and Accountability,\u201d saw Mr Mahama outlining several governance policies he plans to implement across various sectors if elected on December 7.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
He said that the next NDC administration would ensure \u201cadequate safety\u201d for all citizens to support the success of the \u201c24-hour Economy\u201d agenda.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mr Mahama said that security services and related agencies would be properly resourced and motivated to fulfil their mandates effectively.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cOurs will be a government that ensures that promotions are based on merit and correct the injustice in promotions across the security services,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mr Mahama added that the next NDC government would review compensation packages for security personnel who lose their lives or injure themselves in the line of duty.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He encouraged the men and women in uniform to abide by their oath of office and maintain peace before, during and after the general elections.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI am confident that the Special Voting Day will herald the tone for our resounding victory in this year\u2019s elections because the category of voters taking part in the Special Voting, just like millions of Ghanaians, feel the hardship that has been imposed by the reckless mismanagement of this economy,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mr Mahama expressed his commitment to restoring \u201cconfidence\u201d in Ghana\u2019s democratic institutions and urged the electorate to \u201creject\u201d the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Election Day.\u00a0<\/p>\n
