{"id":243127,"date":"2024-10-31T23:30:51","date_gmt":"2024-10-31T23:30:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/10\/31\/stakeholders-urged-to-support-teenage-mothers-to-return-to-school\/"},"modified":"2024-10-31T23:30:51","modified_gmt":"2024-10-31T23:30:51","slug":"stakeholders-urged-to-support-teenage-mothers-to-return-to-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/10\/31\/stakeholders-urged-to-support-teenage-mothers-to-return-to-school\/","title":{"rendered":"Stakeholders urged to support teenage mothers to return to school"},"content":{"rendered":"<br><div id=\"article-text\">\n                       \n                        \n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Executive Director of Indigenous Women Empowerment Network (IWEN Ghana), Celestina Maame Esi Andoh, has called on traditional authorities, parents and community members in the country to ensure that teenage mothers who have dropped out of school due to pregnancy return to school after delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She also called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to strengthen its guidance and counselling unit to provide the appropriate services for pupils and students at the pre-tertiary level of education to enable them to focus on their education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She urged parents and guardians to open up to their children and wards, especially the girls, on sex education to prevent them from getting into activities that will make them pregnant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLack of sex education and poverty are some of the major factors that contribute to teenage pregnancy, while stigmatisation by peers and from the communities are also factors that hinder teenage mothers from returning to school to complete their education after delivery,\u201d Ms Andoh stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10032629715 lazyload ewww_webp_lazy_load\" style=\"width:840px;height:auto\" src=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Celestina-Andoh.jpg\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"446\" data-eio-rwidth=\"696\" data-eio-rheight=\"446\" src-webp=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Celestina-Andoh.jpg.webp\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Celestina-Andoh.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10032629715\" style=\"width:840px;height:auto\" data-eio=\"l\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Executive Director of IWEN Ghana &#8211; Celestina Maame Esi Andoh<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The government&#8217;s policy on re-entry for girls is to ensure that girls who drop out of school due to pregnancy are admitted again after giving birth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She stated that the policy aims to implement measures that will help prevent the exclusion of young mothers from furthering their education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;In the event of a girl being forced out of school due to pregnancy, a policy guideline has been provided to assist schools and other stakeholders, such as parents and guardians, to ensure that the girl is enabled to complete her education,&#8221;
