{"id":242629,"date":"2024-10-31T09:01:24","date_gmt":"2024-10-31T09:01:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/10\/31\/ghana-is-now-bad-model-of-democracy-our-judiciary-is-not-independent-mahama\/"},"modified":"2024-10-31T09:01:24","modified_gmt":"2024-10-31T09:01:24","slug":"ghana-is-now-bad-model-of-democracy-our-judiciary-is-not-independent-mahama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/10\/31\/ghana-is-now-bad-model-of-democracy-our-judiciary-is-not-independent-mahama\/","title":{"rendered":"Ghana is now bad model of democracy; our judiciary is not independent &#8211; Mahama"},"content":{"rendered":"<br><div id=\"article-text\">\n                       \n                        \n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Presidential Candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, says the country has become a bad model of democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking on the second day of his tour of the Northern Region, former President Mahama questioned the independence of the Judiciary and the autonomy of state institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This, he claimed, has led to global disappointment in the country\u2019s governance model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAnywhere I go, the question people outside Ghana ask me is \u2018Ghana, what happened to you? Kwame Nkrumah\u2019s Ghana, what happened to you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEverybody looked up to Ghana as the model of democracy, today, we are a bad model of democracy, our judiciary is not independent, all our state institutions have been destroyed, people looked up to Ghana as a country that is a model of economic management, today, our economy is in shambles,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Mahama criticisms come amidst the ongoing suit between Effutu MP, Alexander Afenyo-Markin and the Speaker of Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Afenyo-Markin, initiated the court process after Speaker Alban Bagbin declared four parliamentary seats vacant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Supreme Court, therefore, issued a stay in Speaker Bagbin&#8217;s declaration.
