&#8211; Franklin Cudjoe blasts Supreme Court\u2019s handling of SALL disenfranchisement"},"content":{"rendered":"<br><div id=\"article-text\">\n                       \n                        \n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The founder of the think tank IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has sharply criticised the Supreme Court, accusing it of hypocrisy and bias in handling cases of disenfranchisement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Cudjoe\u2019s criticism follows the Court\u2019s recent decision to support four constituencies whose MPs had reportedly abandoned their constituents for nearly four years, contrasting it with the Court\u2019s handling of the SALL (Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe, and Lolobi) case. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Cudjoe contends that the SALL constituency was unjustly ignored by the Court, leading to a prolonged lack of representation and development despite their obligation to pay taxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI am so shocked at the level of hypocrisy and double standards displayed by the Supreme Court today,\u201d Cudjoe stated, highlighting the Chief Justice\u2019s apparent \u201cinvestment in the representation of constituents\u201d whose MPs had neglected them for other political parties. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Franklin Cudjoe expressed his astonishment at the Court\u2019s \u201clavish and shameless display\u201d of protection for these constituencies, while SALL\u2019s urgent plea for representation was met with indifference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2020, the people of SALL were effectively disenfranchised, unable to participate in parliamentary elections due to an alleged electoral oversight, which they brought to the Supreme Court. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe had gone to the Supreme Court to expeditiously protect our rights that had been violated,\u201d Mr Cudjoe recalled, adding that instead of addressing their concerns directly, the Court \u201cdiscarded us and dispatched us to the High Court to \u2018try our luck\u2019.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The subsequent ruling in the High Court\u2014after three years of litigation\u2014declared it had no jurisdiction, leaving SALL residents without representation for nearly four years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Franklin Cudjoe\u2019s frustration was palpable as he described the systemic neglect SALL has endured. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFor four years, we have been rendered orphans and ostracized by the system,\u201d he noted, underscoring the community\u2019s frustration with paying taxes and yet seeing no developmental efforts or accountability from the state. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;SALL\u2019s appeal to the Superior Court remains pending, but Cudjoe expressed scepticism, particularly given the Supreme Court\u2019s \u201ccontrived, shambolic display of \u2018politically biased\u2019 support for some Ghanaians.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Cudjoe went further to question the Court\u2019s expedited treatment of the case involving the four constituencies, where it ruled on an ex parte motion to ensure MPs\u2019 salaries and benefits would be impacted by their neglect. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat was so special about the four constituencies whose MPs had abandoned them?\u201d he asked. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For him, the Court\u2019s actions were indicative of \u201cjudicial terrorism aided by legal plunder,\u201d wherein certain cases are given preferential treatment based on political interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Franklin Cudjoe\u2019s statement exposes a deeply felt frustration over what he perceives as a politicised judicial system, one that he argues operates with a troubling inconsistency in upholding democratic rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n                <p><strong>DISCLAIMER: <\/strong>The Views, Comments, Opinions, Contributions and Statements made by Readers and Contributors on this platform do not necessarily represent the views or policy of Multimedia Group Limited.<\/p>      \n               \n <!-- Post Tags -->\n                \n\n                        \n\n    \n                                 \n                                             \n                    <\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The founder of the think tank IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has sharply criticised the Supreme Court, accusing it of hypocrisy and bias in handling cases of disenfranchisement.
