{"id":241749,"date":"2024-10-30T02:51:10","date_gmt":"2024-10-30T02:51:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/10\/30\/man-up-and-debate-me-mahama-bawumia-fires-back-with-50-questions\/"},"modified":"2024-10-30T02:51:10","modified_gmt":"2024-10-30T02:51:10","slug":"man-up-and-debate-me-mahama-bawumia-fires-back-with-50-questions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/10\/30\/man-up-and-debate-me-mahama-bawumia-fires-back-with-50-questions\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Man up and debate me, Mahama&#8217; \u2013 Bawumia fires back with 50 questions"},"content":{"rendered":"<br><p>Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia<\/p><div id=\"article-text\">\n                       \n                        \n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has responded sharply to former President John Mahama\u2019s latest questions about his record as Vice President.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Vice President called on Mr Mahama to engage in a direct debate instead of using \u201cflimsy questions.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This call came in response to Mahama\u2019s five-question challenge to Dr Bawumia, reminiscent of the 170 questions he posed to then-Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur in the lead-up to the 2016 election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his rebuttal, Dr Bawumia issued a pointed invitation to Mr Mahama, declaring, \u201cI would have thought he would be man enough to face me in a one-on-one debate for the Ghanaian public to assess our respective policies, achievements, and visions. He should not hide behind these flimsy questions to avoid a debate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr Bawumia added that Mahama\u2019s questions were no match for the more \u201csubstantive\u201d issues he was prepared to address, offering his own list of 50 questions about Mr Mahama\u2019s track record on the economy, infrastructure, and social intervention policies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCome for a debate, and I can ask the moderators to ask me these five flimsy questions,\u201d he quipped, challenging Mahama on policies ranging from educational reforms to infrastructure growth under the NDC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe width=\"500\" height=\"250\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FMBawumia%2Fposts%2Fpfbid0mce37GF8K8JxkwCRCZZWk5p3mC7UWonRhAK4n2TiD6ad4i9841X24wBowARQTJaVl&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=800\" class=\"lazyload\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Bawumia\u2019s 50-Question Challenge<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his detailed response, Dr Bawumia drilled into Mahama\u2019s governance record with questions about what he perceived as shortcomings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the list, Dr Bawumia demanded clarity on issues like Mr Mahama\u2019s position on free education, citing past advertisements that he said opposed the free Senior High School (SHS) policy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhy did you run advertisements against free SHS?\u201d he asked, highlighting the contrasting education policies of the NPP and NDC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also questioned Mr Mahama on the challenges of Dumsor under his administration, saying, \u201cIf you think your economic management was so good, how come we experienced more than four years of Dumsor under your government?\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to the economy, Dr Bawumia\u2019s questions targeted specific policy reversals such as the cancellation of teacher and nursing training allowances, which the NPP has since restored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Vice President further questioned Mr Mahama\u2019s government\u2019s management of social services and infrastructure, challenging Mahama to name \u201cany broad-based social intervention policy\u201d that was implemented under his tenure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also highlighted issues with the banking sector, stating, \u201cWhy did the banking system almost collapse under your government?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Below are the 50 questions: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1. Why did you implement the three-month pay policy for\u00a0teachers under the government?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">11. Why did you cancel the car import duty waiver for teachers\u00a0and nurses?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">12. Why was average agricultural growth under your government\u00a0(2.9%) less than half what it is under our government\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">13.
