This is a huge political event. These writs, which were issued on October 28, 2024, attempted to overturn Speaker Bagbin&#8217;s decision about the four parliamentary seat vacancies, a topic that has sparked intense national debate and controversy.<\/p>\n<p>In a firm reply, Speaker Bagbin directed that the writs be sent back to the Supreme Court. He said that the court&#8217;s intervention weakens Parliament&#8217;s authority and violates the separation of powers principle. He believes that the Supreme Court has overreached itself and violated the independence and autonomy of the legislative branch. On a well-known news site, a citizen said, &#8220;No other branch of government should subdue Parliament.&#8221; &#8220;This is a rare show of courage; it&#8217;s heartening to see our Speaker standing up for the integrity of Parliament,&#8221; said another fan.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ghanaweb.com\/imagelib\/blog\/574\/57413509.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Discussions about Ghana&#8217;s democratic checks and balances have turned to the issue of the vacant seats, and for many citizens, Speaker Bagbin&#8217;s position not only affirms parliamentary authority but also embodies a more general call to uphold democratic norms.
