Cynthia Mamle Morrison, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona West in the Central Region, has been injuncted from contesting in the 2024 parliamentary election as an independent candidate.<\/p>\n This decision comes less than two months before the December 7, 2024, polls, following Morrison\u2019s nomination to run as an independent after losing the NPP parliamentary primaries for the Agona West Constituency.<\/p>\n On Friday, October 11, 2024, the District Magistrate Court in Agona Swedru issued the order while hearing a challenge to Morrison\u2019s candidature brought forth by three residents of Agona Swedru. The court also directed the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC), the second defendant in the case, to cease processing the MP\u2019s nomination for the upcoming election.<\/p>\n \u201cWHEREAS having come on the 11th day of September 2024 before HIS WORSHIP, VICTOR KUSI ESQUIRE, DISTRICT MAGISTRATE, Agona Swedru.<\/p>\n \u201cAND UPON hearing AUSTIN KWARENA BRAND-POWERS, Counsel for the plaintiff herein, the Motion is Granted,\u201d part of the court document cited by GhanaWeb reads.<\/p>\n It continued, \u201cIT IS HEREBY ORDERED that the Motion for an interlocutory injunction restraining the 1st Defendant from holding herself as a parliamentary candidate and the 2nd Defendant from proceeding with the nomination of Cynthia Mamle Morrison as an Independent Parliamentary nominee until the matter is fully determined.
