Legendary Ghanaian footballer, Prince Tagoe, has said that he wishes Mohammed Kudus the best of luck after he was selected as the captain of the Black Stars for the 2025 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers match against Sudan.

He stated that the Black Stars captaincy has always been problematic in terms of those who handle it after the retirement of Stephen Appiah.

Tagoe indicated that he would not go into details about what he makes of the captaincy issue but will wait for the Black Stars’ game to end before giving his full opinion.

“I think we have a game, and we don’t want to say certain things. That is not really important. All that we want is for us to win our game today so that we can discuss the role of the captaincy.

“Because from the time I think Stephen Appiah stopped playing for the Black Stars, I think the captaincy has had a little bit of a problem, but I don’t want to go into it as of now. I hope, whilst he [Kudus] is the captain for the day, he is going to put his weight in and know that the team right now will be looking at him. So, I’m sure victory will come,” he told 3Sports.

This follows Mohammed Kudus being named the captain for the Black Stars by coach Otto Addo against Sudan.

The decision was made following the absence of substantive captain Andre Dede Ayew, who was called up to join the squad, and also his deputy Thomas Partey, who could not join the team due to injury.

Ghana will play Sudan on October 10, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Black Stars’ doubleheader against Sudan will have a major impact on Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON after failing to win their first two games.
