{"id":221928,"date":"2024-09-29T18:35:51","date_gmt":"2024-09-29T18:35:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/09\/29\/tragedy-strikes-ibadan-white-garment-church-feast-five-dead-50-hospitalized\/"},"modified":"2024-09-29T18:35:51","modified_gmt":"2024-09-29T18:35:51","slug":"tragedy-strikes-ibadan-white-garment-church-feast-five-dead-50-hospitalized","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/09\/29\/tragedy-strikes-ibadan-white-garment-church-feast-five-dead-50-hospitalized\/","title":{"rendered":"Tragedy Strikes Ibadan White Garment Church Feast, Five Dead, 50 Hospitalized"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Five people lost their lives and several others were hospitalized at the Infectious Disease Centre in Olodo, Ibadan, Oyo State, after attending a traditional feast called \u201cipese\u201d organized by a local white-garment church.<\/p>\n<p>However, at the time of reporting this article on Saturday, approximately 50 of the worshippers had been discharged from the centre.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday Tribune gathered that the incident occurred during last Sunday\u2019s church service.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"td-adspot-title\">Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<p>According to reliable sources, the feast, also known as ipese, is one of the traditional festivities that adhere to the church\u2019s teaching.<\/p>\n<p>According to a church insider, medical evidence has not been presented to support the claim that the ipese caused the victims\u2019 deaths.<\/p>\n<p>The insider said, \u201cI ate the prepared beans like every other member, including the victims and nothing happened to me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe incident was not all about \u2018ipese\u2019 as made to believe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe various organs of government, including the police, Directorate of State Services, (DSS), media organisations, World Health Organisation (WHO) have been to this place on a fact-finding mission.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir findings are yet to be made public, but I can tell you that it is not about ipese as being insinuated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is true that some victims are still undergoing treatment at IDC Olodo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlso, there is no iota of truth in the rumour that the church premises have been put under lock and key.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Shepherd-in-Charge has been attending to visitors since morning. He is taking his test. You (our correspondent) can\u2019t see him now unless you come tomorrow during the service.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, a senior medical staff member at IDC Olodo, who requested anonymity, corroborated the incidence.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that 50 of the victims who were rushed to the IDC have been treated and discharged.<\/p>\n<p>READ MORE: Two Arrested For Stealing Phones From Parked Car In Enugu<\/p>\n<p>According to him, \u201cSome of the affected persons were brought to the centre for treatment.
