Immediately, the boat capsized. It sank into the river with all the passengers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe did our best to rescue them, but unfortunately, we were only able to bring out 12 persons alive, including the captain of the boat. The bodies of the other 41 passengers were evacuated out of the water.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Confirming the accident to PUNCH in an interview on Saturday, the Sole Administrator, Gummi Local Government Area, Alhaji Na\u2019Allah Musa, disclosed that the boat was overloaded.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:\u00a0Bandits Attack Construction Workers, Kill 5 Policemen, 3 Soldiers In Zamfara<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Musa added that the captain, told all the passengers that some of them must come down, but all of them refused to listen.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cThere were many people on the boat, and the captain did all he could to reduce the number, but nobody wanted to be left behind.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen he did all he could to reduce the number but failed, he was left with no option but to start going.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs he moved forward, the boat capsized and sank into the river due to overloading.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnly four of the passengers were able to swim out of the river, while the rescue operators were able to save others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were many casualties, but actually I can\u2019t say exactly how many of them have died because we are still looking for other missing passengers.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-7\" style=\"margin: 8px auto; text-align: center; display: block; clear: both;\">\n<div data-advadstrackid=\"941128\" data-advadstrackbid=\"1\" class=\"infor-target\" id=\"infor-573530476\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/FirstBank-Giant-Strides300x250.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\"\/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>No fewer than 41 people have been reportedly killed in a boat accident that occurred in Gummi town, the headquarters of Gummi Local Government Area in Zamfara State.
