Mahama also reminded the gathering that members of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC), of which Akufo-Addo is a part, were historically against Ghana\u2019s quest for independence.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, Akufo-Addo has firmly rejected the notion that Ghana was founded by a single individual, emphasizing the collective efforts of various individuals in the independence struggle.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, Parliament passed a law establishing August 4 as Founders\u2019 Day to honour the contributions of all who played a role in Ghana\u2019s journey to independence and September 21 as Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day to specifically acknowledge Nkrumah\u2019s contributions.<\/p>\n<p>The decision to create Founders\u2019 Day sparked protests from some individuals and groups who believed in Nkrumah\u2019s singular role in founding the country.<\/p>\n<p>Former President Mahama promised to \u201creset\u201d the narrative when elected President, implying that he will revert to recognizing Nkrumah as the sole founder of Ghana.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BY Daniel Bampoe<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- CONTENT END 2 -->\n\t<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0 Former President John Mahama has expressed his disappointment and disapproval over President Akufo-Addo\u2019s recent Founders\u2019 Day address, accusing him of attempting to rewrite Ghana\u2019s history.
