{"id":186880,"date":"2024-06-05T04:35:15","date_gmt":"2024-06-05T04:35:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/06\/05\/ps-bitok-announces-timeline-for-establishing-civil-registration-centers-in-all-constituencies\/"},"modified":"2024-06-05T04:35:15","modified_gmt":"2024-06-05T04:35:15","slug":"ps-bitok-announces-timeline-for-establishing-civil-registration-centers-in-all-constituencies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/06\/05\/ps-bitok-announces-timeline-for-establishing-civil-registration-centers-in-all-constituencies\/","title":{"rendered":"PS Bitok Announces Timeline for Establishing Civil Registration Centers in All Constituencies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-298964\" alt=\"\" width=\"902\" height=\"469\"  data-lazy- src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/1705038513_688_ps-bitok.jpg\"\/><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-298964\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/1705038513_688_ps-bitok.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"902\" height=\"469\"  \/>State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services PS Julius Bitok says the government has developed a three-year plan to ensure all 290 constituencies have civil registration centers.<\/p>\n<p>A civil registration system ensures the registration of all vital events, including births, marriages, and deaths, and issues relevant certificates as proof of such registration.<\/p>\n<p>Bitok noted that civil registration centers are currently operational in 159 sub-counties out of 406 nationwide.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThis is an increase of 34 sub-counties since 2021,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n<p>Bitok made these remarks on Tuesday before the National Assembly\u2019s Implementation Committee.<\/p>\n<p>He was responding to a motion by Maragwa MP Mary Wamaua, urging the government to establish database centers in all civil registration centers to store the necessary information for issuing birth certificates to children.<\/p>\n<p>The House approved the motion on May 3, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>In his submissions, Bitok said the department would strive to operationalize 131 offices in constituencies lacking civil registration offices.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThis will bring services closer to the public,\u201d<\/em> he added.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the department has established databases in all operational sub-counties, though some are still manual.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe department has embarked on digitizing and automating its processes to ensure efficient storage, application, and processing of certificates,\u201d<\/em> Bitok said.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that the Civil Registration Department has implemented a web-based system to allow the public to be issued a Unique Personal Identifier (UPI) or Maisha Namba at birth.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe system will subsequently allow the public to apply for certificates online, make payments through eCitizen, and download their certificates.
