{"id":180855,"date":"2024-05-10T11:58:20","date_gmt":"2024-05-10T11:58:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/05\/10\/ndc-slams-ecs-refusal-to-share-serial-numbers-of-bvr-kits\/"},"modified":"2024-05-10T11:58:20","modified_gmt":"2024-05-10T11:58:20","slug":"ndc-slams-ecs-refusal-to-share-serial-numbers-of-bvr-kits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/05\/10\/ndc-slams-ecs-refusal-to-share-serial-numbers-of-bvr-kits\/","title":{"rendered":"NDC slams EC&#8217;s refusal to share serial numbers of BVR kits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed strong reservations about the Electoral Commission\u2019s refusal to disclose the serial numbers of the Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits used in the ongoing Limited Voter Registration exercise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The controversy arose after the opposition NDC wrote to the EC to provide them with the serial numbers of the BVR kits currently\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">in use<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0for the ongoing Limited Voter Registration process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">But the\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">commission<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">in<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0a statement on May 9, said that releasing the serial numbers to external parties could pose\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">major<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0risks to the security and integrity of the electoral system and its operations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Tanko Rashid-Computer, the NDC\u2019s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, who spoke to Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News, said the explanation by the <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">commission<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0is false.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He argued that the\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Commission\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0position is unfounded, pointing out that\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">during elections,<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> the serial numbers of the Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) are routinely provided to them and noted on the pink sheets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cWhat are they talking about<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, why<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0do they have to tell lies? What do they have to hide? During election time, they give us the serial numbers of BVDs,\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">that is<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">the<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0ones we use to vote. The serial numbers\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">are given<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0to us\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">and<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">they\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">are<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0written<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> on the pink sheets. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cThere is a column where you have to write the serial numbers of the BVDs, <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">so,<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">how\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">come<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0when it comes to the\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">registration<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0they don\u2019t want to give us the serial numbers?
