{"id":174957,"date":"2024-04-25T04:48:13","date_gmt":"2024-04-25T04:48:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/04\/25\/cbk-releases-list-of-licensed-microfinance-banks\/"},"modified":"2024-04-25T04:48:13","modified_gmt":"2024-04-25T04:48:13","slug":"cbk-releases-list-of-licensed-microfinance-banks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/04\/25\/cbk-releases-list-of-licensed-microfinance-banks\/","title":{"rendered":"CBK Releases List of Licensed Microfinance Banks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-302536\" alt=\"\" width=\"809\" height=\"430\"  data-lazy- src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/cbk.jpg\"\/><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-302536\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/cbk.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"809\" height=\"430\"  \/>The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has released a list of licensed Microfinance Banks in Kenya.<\/p>\n<p>In a notice dated April 24, CBK stated that the publication of licensed banks is pursuant to section 8 (2) of the Microfinance (Deposit-Taking Microfinance Institutions) Regulations, 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Licenses are issued in accordance with Section 6 (1) of the Microfinance Act, 2006, and Regulation 5 (3) of the Microfinance Regulations, 2008, which legally authorize the applicant to commence microfinance bank business.<\/p>\n<p>The Act empowers microfinance banks (MFBs) licensed by the Central Bank of Kenya to gather deposits from the general public, thus fostering savings, competition, efficiency, and financial inclusion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) hereby notifies the general public of the following institutions duly licensed to carry out the deposit-taking microfinance business in Kenya,\u201d the notice reads in part.<\/p>\n<p>CBK has licensed 14 Microfinance Banks. Among them are <strong>Faulu Microfinance Bank Limited<\/strong>, <strong>Kenya Women Microfinance Bank PLC<\/strong>, <strong>Salaam Microfinance Bank Limited<\/strong>, and <strong>SMEP Microfinance Bank PLC<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, <strong>LOLC Kenya Microfinance PLC<\/strong>, <strong>Rafiki Microfinance Bank Limited<\/strong>, <strong>Branch Microfinance Bank Limited<\/strong>, <strong>Sumac Microfinance Bank Limited<\/strong>, and <strong>U&amp;I Microfinance Bank Limited<\/strong> are among the licensed institutions.<\/p>\n<p>The list also includes <strong>Umba Microfinance Bank Limited, Choice Microfinance Bank Limited, Caritas Microfinance Bank Limited, On It Microfinance Bank Limited, <\/strong>and<strong> Muungano Microfinance Bank Limited.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has released a list of licensed Microfinance Banks in Kenya.
