PSG were able to swarm the ten-men of Barcelona and score four times without further reply to snatch back that spot in the next round.<\/p>\n<p>Who were Barcelona\u2019s best and worst players up at Montjuic? Here are our picks, courtesy of\u00a0<em>90min\u2019s<\/em>\u00a0player ratings.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"_45hy1yt0x\">Barcelona\u2019s best player vs PSG<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/01hvnj4dc1w2kwtxnq5e.jpg\" alt=\"Lamine Yamal\" title=\"Lamine Yamal\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Yamal was only a brief participant \/ Jean Catuffe\/GettyImages<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lamine Yamal \u2013 7\/10<\/h3>\n<p>Admittedly, Lamine Yamal\u2019s final rating is helped by the fact he was substituted for defender Inigo Martinez after 34 minutes to fill the gap left by Araujo\u2019s red card, but what a 34 minutes they were.<\/p>\n<p>The 16-year-old\u2019s trademark fearlessness was on full display early in the evening, scampering away from Nuno Mendes and darting to the byline to cross for Raphinha\u2019s deadlock breaker.<\/p>\n<p>Barcelona\u00a0sought to build on their lead and kill the tie completely, but were forced to take up a more conservative approach when reduced to ten men. Yamal, still barely an adult, was sacrificed. Barca\u2019s collapse began from there.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Honourable mention<\/h3>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/01hvnjhsc4ekv8mb6n6h.jpg\" alt=\"Ilkay Guendogan\" title=\"Ilkay Guendogan\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Gundogan gave his all \/ Clive Brunskill\/GettyImages<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ilkay Gundogan \u2013 6\/10<\/h3>\n<p>Barcelona\u2019s young stars have needed an old head on the pitch to guide them through this testing season, and Ilkay Gundogan has played that role to perfection.<\/p>\n<p>He was one of their only players to retain composure when PSG really amped up the pressure, and when Barcelona went behind, the main protagonist trying to bring them level again.<\/p>\n<p>This leadership extended to his post-match interview, claiming his side lost their heads a little, but also claiming he should have won a penalty after being hauled down by Vitinha.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything was in our hands and we just gave it away in the most simple manner. It was a challenge Araujo did not need to make.<\/p>\n<p>With Bradley Barcola making a run towards goal, the Barcelona defender bundled him over on the edge of the box and was sent off for denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>And let\u2019s be clear \u2013 despite Xavi\u2019s grievances, this was definitely a foul and definitely a red card. Araujo claimed Pau Cubarsi was covering him and therefore he was not the last man, but this excuse did not hold up on the VAR review.<\/p>\n<p>Gundogan even indirectly blamed Araujo in his post-match interview, commenting: \u201cIf he fouled him, I guess it\u2019s a red card. I haven\u2019t seen the replay. Difficult to say, in these kind of crucial moments you need to be sure to get the ball, and if you don\u2019t get it you have to stay away.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d prefer to concede the goal there or give the striker a one-v-one even though he played the ball quite far, so I don\u2019t even know if he\u2019d be able to reach the ball. But given the opportunity, maybe let the goalkeeper save us or even concede a goal because to go down one man and get a red card so early in the game just kills the game.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dishonourable mention<\/h3>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/01hvnkvyvq2zkpj1z095.jpg\" alt=\"Joao Cancelo\" title=\"Joao Cancelo\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Just stay on your feet for goodness sake \/ Jean Catuffe\/GettyImages<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Joao Cancelo \u2013 4\/10<\/h3>\n<p>PSG went ahead in the just after the hour mark when Kylian Mbappe scored from the penalty spot, and it was Joao Cancelo\u2019s fault he was able to take the spot kick.<\/p>\n<p>His foul on Ousmane Dembele was reckless to say the least \u2013 he was heading away from goal, for crying out loud \u2013 and the odds of him taking the ball cleanly were minimal.
