Mikel Arteta says Arsenal must perform better in Munich after \u2018giving\u2019 two goals away to Bayern in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Gunners were overwhelming favourites to overcome an inconsistent Bayern at the Emirates Stadium, but\u00a0failed to overcome the Bundesliga giants\u00a0despite taking an early lead through Bukayo Saka.<\/p>\n

Former Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry levelled up proceedings before familiar foe Harry Kane netted from the penalty spot on his return to north London.<\/p>\n

Substitute Leandro Trossard\u2019s equaliser ensured Arsenal head to Munich next week on level terms, but Arteta admitted his team must learn how ruthless playing the Champions League is ahead of the return leg.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the\u00a0Champions League\u00a0you cannot give anything to the opponent and we gave them two goals. When you have this situation you are going to be punished. And that is the biggest lesson,\u201d the Spaniard said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe margins are very small in this competition and it is really difficult to create quality chances against this level of opposition. But I think the team showed a lot of composure, especially after 2-1 \u2013 you can throw your toys away and give your opponents a lot of space but we haven\u2019t done that and the substitutes made a huge impact.<\/p>\n

\u201cI sense the belief among the \u00adplayers that we are going to go to Munich next week and be better.\u201d<\/p>\n

Arteta would not be drawn, however, on referee Glenn Nyberg\u2019s failure to award\u00a0Arsenal\u00a0a stoppage time penalty. Bukayo Saka collided with Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer while running at pace, but the England winger was deemed to have initiated the contact by hanging his leg out in front of the goalkeeper\u2019s path.<\/p>\n

\u201cI haven\u2019t seen it,\u201d Arteta remarked \u201cThe decision is made, we cannot change that. We have to focus on other aspects we can control and that we could\u2019ve done much better tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the night\u2019s other game, Real Madrid and Manchester City played out a\u00a0thrilling 3-3 draw\u00a0at the Santiago Bernabeu \u2013 the winner of that tie will take on Arsenal or\u00a0Bayern\u00a0in the last four.<\/p>\n
