Everton have been handed a two-point deduction for a breach of Premier League profit and sustainability rules (PSR).<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Toffees had already been deducted six points \u2013 which was reduced from ten on appeal \u2013 for a previous breach of financial regulations.<\/p>\n

They have now been hit by another penalty after an independent commission recommended such a punishment for their spending in a three-year accounting period ending in the 2022\/23 season.<\/p>\n

This new points deduction has seen Everton drop below Brentford into 16th place in the Premier League table and they are now only two points clear of the relegation zone.<\/p>\n

Everton\u00a0confirmed in a club statement on Monday they plan to appeal this punishment.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn January 2024, Everton were charged by the Premier League for breaching the permitted Profit and Sustainability thresholds for the assessment period ending 2022\/23,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe matter was referred to a Premier League Commission, which has today announced Everton will receive an immediate two-point deduction. While the Club\u2019s position has been that no further sanction was appropriate, the Club is pleased to see that the Commission has given credit to the majority of the issues raised by the Club, including the concept of double punishment, the significant mitigating circumstances facing the Club due to the war in Ukraine, and the high level of co-operation and early admission of the Club\u2019s breach.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverton\u00a0remains committed to working collaboratively with the League on all matters relating to PSR but is extremely concerned by the inconsistency of different\u00a0commissions in respect of points deductions applied.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Club would like to place on record its thanks to the Fan Advisory Board and other fan groups for their submissions during this process, and to all Evertonians for their ongoing patience and unstinting support.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Club and its legal representatives\u00a0have begun the preparations to appeal the Commission\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo further comment will be made at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, a Premier League statement read: \u201cAn independent Commission has given an immediate two-point deduction to Everton FC for a breach of the Premier League\u2019s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSRs) for the period ending Season 2022\/23.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cOver a three-day hearing last month, the independent Commission heard evidence and arguments from the club in respect of a range of potential mitigating factors for its admitted breach of \u00a316.6million, including the impact of its two successive PSR charges. Having done so, the Commission determined the appropriate sanction to be a two-point deduction, taking effect immediately.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe independent Commission reaffirmed the principle that any breach of the PSRs is significant and justifies, indeed requires, a sporting sanction.<\/p>\n

\u201cCommissions are independent of the Premier League and member clubs. The members of the Commission were appointed by the independent Chair of the Premier League Judicial Panel.\u201d<\/p>\n
